So, I guess Soupie's wife's old name is immortalized in ToyFare! :p Anyway, it seems like they're implying rarity but not specifying a price.

Fortunately, she seems to find the fact mildly amusing. :D

And I'm glad their focusing on rarity and not value/price.

The little price guide bit they added in the back was hilarious. 50 cents....50 cents....50 cents....$1....50 cents....50 cents.... I'm gonna go look up all my guys right now! :p Hopefully that serves to stem the tide of "investors" that these kinds of articles usually provoke.

The article was cool overall. Made me miss my copy of the NES game though. :D

Well, I got a copy (ordered it a few weeks ago from the local shop). There was a few incorrectly listed items, though.

Off the top of the head, (1) Kenkeshi were not actually pencil erasers, but 'keshi' literally means eraser, so that misunderstanding is understandable. (2) Sunigator? It's Sneagator. (3) The names of the characters are from what we understood five years ago. Wikipedia has the properly translated and spelled names of the characters-- where did those names come from? (4) Every guy with 'Kinnikuman' in their name [Zebra, Great, etc] had [English: Muscleman] appended after their name. Same for Buffaloman [English: Terri-Bull], but that was actually correct.

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

Awesome! The fact that they linked Muscle sites is great! I am gonna try to find myself a copy today. Its kinda like Muscle is on the shelves again in a way. That we can actually go to the store and find something Muscle related is a blast from the past!

Definitely deserves a <_< or :woot: :woot: or :woot: :woot: :woot:

I picked up two copies at my local comic shop. Excellent article packed with lots of great, accurate info.

Well done, Toy Fare! Thanks for giving our little guys some love. :)

(And the obnoxiously long MCIA address doesn't look as bad as I thought it would in print. )

(2) Sunigator? It's Sneagator.

Sort of. "Sunigator" is the literal kanji translation. The "u" is silent, and the "i" has an "e" sound to it, so it sounds like "Sneagator". I'm not saying "Sneagator" is wrong (in fact, it probably is better because it more accurately reflects the play on words), just that they're both acceptable. "Snigator" could also be acceptable.

(3) The names of the characters are from what we understood five years ago. Wikipedia has the properly translated and spelled names of the characters-- where did those names come from?

I think those names come from my site:

http://www.nathansmu...menu=kinnikuman

At least, they seem the same. The names on that page were translated by Taka Kurosaka. Since I don't speak or read Japanese myself, I don't know if Wiki is more "right" than that list.

I couldn't find the issue anywhere. I looked at Walmart, Foodlion, Target, and even stopped in at BooksAMillion who have every Periodical you could think of. They had the March issue of Toyfare with some chick and dude figure of the front, but I couldn't find anything in it. Is it me or has Toyfare magazine gotten thinner? It just seemed lackluster compared to when I used to get it back in the day. It only took me a minute to rummage through it, when it would take me at least 10 to rummage through the old issues...which I do quite often.

I read somewhere that the retail stores get them a few days later than the comic shops do. Maybe that is why.

Yeah, I had figured as much. The only Comic Shop in my area is a bit out of the way, so unless I need to go that direction this weekend, I'll probably just have to settle for the scans, which I'm sure someone will do.

Picked up mine today at a comic shop. Cool issue. Even has pics of the Transformers animated toys (On Cover too). Also did anyone notice that they are releasing the 2002 HE-MAN cartoon series on 3 seperate box sets this month! I did'nt see alot of the series, but from what I did see,it looked pretty cool.

Regular newsstands (grocery stores, bookstores, etc) should have it on the 25th i believe.

Yeah, only took 'em six years to get on that. I can still remember watching the 3-episode pilot when it first aired and literally getting goosebumps when a silhouetted Skeletor cracked that wall with his Havok Staff. The art and music were just awesome, and the attempts to add in some coherent backstory despite Mattel's bungling were admirable. Can't wait to buy this!

I picked up an issue of Toyfare today when I noticed it said "The Return of M.U.S.C.L.E.?" I was really excited, thinking there would be more merchandise brought over for western audiences, but as it turns out it was just an article about the 80s line, and how the Romando and Microman lines are pretty popular. 3 pages of stuff I already knew, and a list of their top 10 wrestlers. >.>;

Well I went to the Toy Fair 2008 in NYC(Javits Center) today. I headed straight for Mattel. When I got there I asked if there was any plan to rerelease M.U.S.C.L.E. or Ultimate Muscle, or anything from that branch of the Muscle toyline. The responses I got were not promising. For sure not this year will there be any released. As for the future ahead, nothing as well. This is Jamesullivan reporting from ToyFair2008.

Awesome! Can't wait to get it. Can't find it anywhere out here yet. No comic shops in my town either (if you can believe that). Oh well, I'll just keep hitting up Barnes and Borders on the way home every day this week.

Hey, guys - the issue should be out on newsstands now. Not Wal-Mart or Target, unfortunately, but Barnes & Noble and Borders should have it. I'm curious to know what everyone thinks.

And as far as the names go, our price guide editor Jon Gutierrez did use Nathan's MUSCLE page for reference, but he also reads some Japanese and translated some of the original hirigana and katakana himself.

Sorry if anyone thought the cover line was misleading. We talk about the Japanese re-issue of the original series and the DVDs at the end of the history section, but I guess it wasn't front-and-center. I'm pretty excited, anyway. (Although I may be more excited about the new Romando Parthenon figure.)

Thanks for everyone's help, especially Soupie's wife -- I hope that's not a problem we gave that Web address out. It's such a great resource! Luckily, a very low percentage of our readers are stalkers.

B)

No, it's no problem at all. I was more concerned with such a long url looking silly in print, but it turns out to look just fine. And thanks again for the fine article.

I finally found a copy yesterday! Took long enough. :p Unfortunately I've been sick since I found it, so although I've been reading through the issue, I havn't really enjoyed it because of how crappy I feel. So I've been reading around the Muscle article, hoping to save it for last until this thing blows over, and I'm in a more cheery mood. :p

Although now I want to start collecting the DC universe figure lines! The Four Horsemen are just so good at what they do! It's simply ridiculous! The articulation and detail seem to put Marvel Legends to shame. Too bad I hadn't really seen those lines before now.

Don't worry URS I just got mine yesterday too. Overall I didn't enjoy it as much as the Battle Beast piece but its so cool to see the little guys shown so much love.

Also on an unrelated note I thought the twisted toyfare theater had one of the funny gags I've seen from them.
