So, a while ago I picked up a sealed mini-boglins in slime toilet. The packaging is still in good condition apart from one small tear and it says on the toilet lid that there is a Splodge inside. Now, here's the question. Would you open it? I've kept it sealed and intend to keep it that way. My wife wants me to open it, especially after a pink one being found lately. I wonder what the slime would be like after being sealed up for over 20 years?

NEVER break the seal of an unopened Vintage Toy!

Because history is sealed in with the item and the moment the package is opened all the mystery that´s surrounding a sealed item dissapears, all questions are answered and most likely you´ll regret opening it after you find out what the answers were.

But that´s just my honest opinion.

Would be interested to hear the slime answer though :)

Most likely if packaged well and if there´s been no connection with the air the slime is still slimey.

I don't buy into the idea that sealed toys should automatically be kept like that.

However, in this instance I very much do think you ought to leave it sealed.

Slime Boglins are not so uncommon that you would have difficulty finding a loose one, and I doubt that you will find an orange or pink slime; it's my understanding that only yellow and blue Slime Boglins have been found in toilets.

I have a sealed toilet myself, and I plan on leaving it that way, not least because I'm probably going to end up selling it (I am not generally a mint-in-packet collector).

And at least, leaving it sealed, you can imagine there's something rare and valuable in there, something which you can't do if you open it. Schrodinger's Boglin, if you will.

But if you really want the toy, then go ahead and open it. Toys are made to be played with, after all. I opened five of them when I was a kid, and had much fun doing so.

So far as to what condition the slime will be in, I'd say it's probably going to have dried up, as the seals on these aren't especially tight, but maybe not. Not much of an answer, I know.

I tend to think more along the lines of Strontium Dog...

I don't think that you should never open your toys... But in this case the big appeal is the mystery. That mystery is gone once you open it. You also have something that's pretty unique, I imagine that you can find odds and ends to your collection without opening this one package.

But whatever you end up doing... Let us know!

We will be eager to hear your results...

I can't envision what one of the packaged Boglins toilets looks like, but sometimes with those old packages you can kind of lift off half the bubble so that you can remove the toy but then slip it back in if you want to still display it in the package. You shouldn't try that, of course, with a toy you think you ever might want to sell.

I've opened many vintage toys and never felt any remorse about opening any of them. The only time opening would be out of the question for me is if something was incredibly valuable.

It sounds like you're already leaning toward wanting it kept sealed, though, so you should do whatever you feel most comfortable with to avoid regretting it later.

Prevalent thinking seems to be that the pinks and oranges came from the later and rarer skulls rather than the toilets, so most likely a blue or yellow in there. On the other hand opening this sucker and finding a rarity colour would rather blow that out of the water so the Boglin archaeologist in me is that little bit curious.

All depends if you feel good about it. If you are second guessing yourself, I say keep it unopened. If you really wanted to open it, you would have.

I have a good friend that opens all this toys, new and vintage. Ive seen him open Vintage Carded MOTU, TMNT, Macross, GI Joe, etc... He enjoys holding the figure and displaying them, to each their own.

So I thinking if you really wanted to open it, you would have already. haha

The thing with carded Joes or Masters though is that they're ticking time bombs. Might be tomorrow, might be 10 years from now but one day the rubber band holding them together is going to perish and you've got a pile of parts rattling around in their pristine blister. I'm not a packaging collector but if I was those and sealed toys with fitted batteries are things I'd be looking to avoid.

Some interesting thoughts here. I'm definitely keeping it sealed. I've had it for a year now so if I was that curious I would have done it already. Maybe if I pick up a second one I'll open that...but the prices auctions get to these days are a bit steep.

Thanks for the thoughts...

Hi Jamesmate, curious to know where you found that sealed slime toilet. Have been scouring all over eBay UK and international in search of the rarer 1994 tribes, but to no avail whatsoever. :(

Did you pay a high premium for this?

Hey Andy, it's the same one that was on ebay around a year or 2 ago if you saw that, I found the buyer on instagram a while back and he wasn't ready to sell until just recently, I havn't seen any others before or since so I paid what you'd probably expect

im sure youve seen this pic floating around, but it could prove that pink/orange were exclusive to this type of packaging or maybe only the skull sets

either way, i'd say the sealed pack is worth more than whatever the contents will be

Yeah man I was the one that posted that picture here of an old listing, totally plausible both ways, shame we can't see inside the slime toilets the way we can with the skulls packaging!

And yeah for sure, I'm a sealed collector, or more accurately a 'loose until I get a sealed version' collector, so I'd not open it just to find out, despite a curious nature, was half hoping the original poster had maybe opened theirs since creating this topic
