I just watched the trailer released for the new TMNT movie coming out this summer. Although I am very skeptical about the accuracy of the plot/characters etc. the special effects look good. It appears to take on a darker side, a bit like the Dark Night RIses did with Batman, which I think could be very cool. I think it is ridiculous how they keep doing and redoing, over and again the same comic hero movies but I am going to try and hold any judgement until I see/hear a bit more. All I can say is that I am glad someone urged Bay to move off of the Turtles coming from outer space. And hey, Megan Fox as April... I can live with that.

I just watched some deleted scenes... and checked out still shots and the scaled models. I also think that April (Megan Fox) is going to have a bigger role than I initially anticipated. More skepticism is setting in unfortunately. Still going to hold onto some faith. I really hope that they didn't completely eph this up.

Yeah, the thing about them being aliens? An exaggeration. The OOZE had interstellar origins, according to that script, but they were good old fashioned Earth turtles.

That being said, I don't see anything that I inherently hate, with the exception of Megan Fox's face... I'm willing to give it a chance.

Yeah I agree, I didn't actually know she was cast as April...100% Bay cliche.

She's too vapid to be April.

Haha. Her face doesn't bother me. Ironically it's her acting that is of most concern. The Turtles look badass but it's their faces that look a bit off to me.

It's Michael Bay...

I know... One thing I am glad they decided to do was go away from the young, cartoonish look of the Turtles. They look more like adults, which I realise defeats the "Teenage" fact but definitely conforms more to the original comics and appearance that Eastman and Laird gave them (to some extent).

Honestly, I rewatched the original TMNT movie a few weeks ago, and if you can get past the very early 90's-ness of it, for the most part it kind of holds up.

I am glad to see that they convinced him to do away with calling it just 'Ninja Turtles' and the whole outer space gimmick, but yeah it does look like he didn't want them to be designed as 'youthful' anymore.

TBH the facial designs, especially when Mic takes off his mask in the trailer, reminds me of the trolls in LotR

Michael Bay likes to troll the movie community, so this makes intuitive sense.

I hope not... You just brought up some really bad memories that I don't need to sit through for 90 minutes.

Yea I loved the first two early 90's movies when they came out as a kid. I remember thinking the third one was crap with the time travel and such... Krah grah rhar gah

I loved the first one, and was disappointed in the slapsticky nature of II and III. This has a darker tone. Even if it's not good, I will probably enjoy what it's TRYING to be.

Well said, I think this accurately described my feelings on it as well. I'm all for the 'darker' reboots since the original concept was pretty dark, but I'd rather have seen someone else take a stab at it, even Aronofsky if no one else.

I grew up with the Archie comics, so I am good with some goofiness in TMNT. But TMNT 3 just sucked from any perspective. I liked all the others.

I have hight hopes, Jonathan Liebesman is directing so it will be interesting where he takes it.

And since Michael Bay is just a producer, hopefully he wont have much say.

There are so many remakes of Films/TV and Literature, its hard not to compare films to previous versions, you just got to watch it for what it is, whats the point in watching a film you know you are going to be disapointed in before you even start.

Totally agree. I am going to go into it with an open mind as I do with any films that I actually pay money to see. For the same reasons as you mentioned. What would be the point otherwise?

Okay -

I know I'm in the minority here but to me the 2nd one was the worst of the bunch!  I remember being super bummed that they changed the actress that played April.  And everything was so over the top and cartoony... with the villains and Super Shredder.  Super Shredder looked like something out of Power Rangers!

Then you have Vanilla Ice randomly thrown in there for the whole go-ninja-go-ninja-go thing... AND they didn't even bring back Casey Jones!

I didn't bother seeing the 3rd one because I was so annoyed with the second one until years later.  Eventually I rented it... and I was kinda ok with the third.  Sure the time travel was silly, but maybe it's because my expectations were so LOW by that point.  And having Elias Koteas back as Casey Jones was great... not a great flick by any means.  But in order of things I would have to go with

1, 3, 2...

Who knows what will happen with the remake.

At least Bay isn't directing... not that I think that much of Jonathan Liebesman.

Much like the 3rd... I'm not going in with much in the way of expectations so who knows?

I think it will be fun, but those expecting the cartoon or the Mirage series are going to get butt-hurt by it.

I think I am in the minority, when  it comes to reboots/remakes, in that I don't WANT to see the same movie remade shot-for-shot. Does anybody remember the Psycho remake with Vince Vaughn? They remade that, shot for freaking shot, and it was a worthless exercise.

I'm all for new ideas. Even if the movie isn't great, there will be a few really cool moments.

And, for the record, I actually like the CG "TMNT" a lot, too.

I feel the same way, i wanna see something different. But as long as its close enough and not changed completely. Its the same thing in music, I hate when bands cover a song and play it exactly the same.

and yeah the CG TMNT is great.

Yeah - that Psycho remake was worthless.

I don't think people want a full on remake (or at least I hope not)... but I think they at least hope that the 'spirit' (for lack of a better word) of the franchise is still there.

It's a cynical way of looking at it... but more often than not my expectations on these sorts of things are low, so occasionally I'm pleasantly surprised.

Well, if you're trying to remake Hitchcock it's going to be worthless no matter what you do. The man was genius, and that was a different Hollywood back then. One man can't have that much control in todays landscape. Most the time when it comes to remakes, I can take them or leave them, but if you're touching a masters work? I won't even typically bother. My kids aren't allowed to watch a remake untill they have seen the original and have some general understanding of context. 9 times out of 10 the first words out of their mouth after viewing... "That wasn't as good as the original" or "I liked the first one better"
