Coolies! Robin Mask and Alice get some spotlight! I always wondered about Robin's past. So he was in Oxford Uni? Must've been really smart then. And Alice's maiden surname was Mackintosh, interesting to know. But i still would like to know how Robin and Kevin actually put solid food into their mouths? Hmm....

Thanks once again STG!

For anyone interested, I just found a preview page from the current issue of Weekly Playboy for the latest installment of the kin nisei story. If you go to:
http://www.s-manga.net/mens/index.html

Click on the pic that is the front cover for the WPB mag on the left hand side (the one with a jap girl photo on the 3rd row down). That should open up some preview pages. Just use the buttons with arrows at the bottom to go through the pages until you reach the one for the kin nisei spread.

I know I am a week behind, but here you go!

---several hours later---
Awwww, I cannot believe I made that many mistakes on the last summary I've posted. Must be summer's heat. Here is the replacement.

Coolies! Robin Mask and Alice get some spotlight!

Her name is ALISA, not ALICE.

Oh sorry. I heard somewhere that Robin's wife was called "Alice", guess that must have been just a Western interpretation of her name.

Great summary again anyway STG! *Sniff* Robin and Alisa are such a romantic couple. I feel so sad for poor Robin Mask having to choose between Alisa and his dream of becoming a great chojin. But i know things will work out for him in the end. And his father is called "Robin Knight", interesting, but i thought "Mask" was their family name? So what's his mask look like? Can't wait to read what happens next!

Well, you know they will have a hell of rocky life after their marriage. :cow:

As for Robin Mask's family, everyone is buffled with their family name. Currently, the followings are the known members of Robin family.
Benefict Robin III
Robin Grande
Robin Knight
Robin Mask
Kevin Mask
:KS: :cow: :cow:
Yude better explain this someday...

Oh yea. Here is the picture someone had posted somewhere. They are Robin Knight, Mrs. Robin (Her name is not revealed yet) and Robin Grande.

What? You mean with Robin's future wrestling matches? Or with their son Kevin? Speaking of whom, i've noticed he seems to be the only one in the "Robin" family that doesn't have "Robin" in his name somewhere.

So the Robin family seems to have a romantic as well as great wrestling history. So is Robin Mask's mother a chojin? I'm assuming that chojins are something separate from normal people here, perhaps a physically superior race, kinda like mutants and normal people in X-men. Hmm, that raises questions as to the origins of chojins and what exactly they are? But perhaps those questions will never be answered.

And what shall happen to poor Robin Mask now? Since the last installment ended with him seemingly drained of all his chojin power! Too bad we're gonna have to wait an extra week for the next chpater.

Have you ever read Gen.1? If so, you have to read it, at least to the end of Seven Akuma Chojin storyline.

Speaking of whom, i've noticed he seems to be the only one in the "Robin" family that doesn't have "Robin" in his name somewhere.

I did notice that too. We are wondering if this mini-series will explain about this or ends without explaining like usual.

So the Robin family seems to have a romantic as well as great wrestling history. So is Robin Mask's mother a chojin? I'm assuming that chojins are something separate from normal people here, perhaps a physically superior race, kinda like mutants and normal people in X-men. Judging from her appearance, Robin Mask's mother is a Chojin.
As for Chojin definition is pretty difficult. Probably, the best definition for Chojin is the entities whose lives are controlled by the Gods of Chojin. Also, you can say any lifeform with Chojin Power is a Chojin regardless of their origin. There are just so many origins for Chojin. Some have parents, but some seems to pop out of nowhere. Can you imagine Road Rage or Photo Pat having parents???
Human and Chojin can interbreed for sure. Terryman's wife, Shouno Natsuko is a human woman. I do not know how gene mixture turns out, but both Kevin and Terry the Kid are Chojin even though their mothers are human. So fans assuming that as long as one of biological parents are Chojin, the child is Chojin. BTW, both Kevin and Terry the Kid have more Chojin Power than their fathers. So, it means being half human doesn't have anything against them.
I believe that Yude always were influenced by American comics since their early days. (I haven't check this out yet, but some pointed out that they've drawn Fantastic Four in background of one of old episodes of Kinnikuman.) Also, the way lesser Chojin were abused by human in first several episodes of Demon Seeds series reminded many fans about X-MEN.

I don't think they'll explain Kevin's name. His mother Alisa probably thought "Kevin" was a nice sounding name and they stuck with it.

Maybe Road Rage was the offspring of a traffic light and some road sign! He he he! But i guess its probably easiest to think of chojins as anyone with great superhuman powers or abilities.

Human and Chojin can interbreed for sure. Terryman's wife, Shouno Natsuko is a human woman. Chojins probably are genetically stronger then.

How were they abused exactly? So are Yude fans of Western comics then? In fact, i wonder how popular Western comics are in Japan generally? Are there alot of Japanese fans for X-men, Batman, Spiderman comics and cartoons etc? It would be interesting to see what would happen if some of the 2nd gen Chojins were pitted against the X-men? Whose super-powers and fighting-techniques would prove stronger? Hmmm....

Besides maybe "Robin" is a middle name.

In fact, i wonder how popular Western comics are in Japan generally? Are there alot of Japanese fans for X-men, Batman, Spiderman comics and cartoons etc?

That I can answer. They are quite popular in Japan. It's not for everyone, but there are quite a few english comics fans. Ninja Turtles, Spiderman, and a few others even ended up with Japanese adaptions. I've even seen a Japanese X-men fansite once.

And yes, Yude are a fan of American Comics. If you read the early Manga chapters, there are mock-up versions of Spiderman (stupiderman), Batman (Badman), and a few others, so they are familliar with both DC and Marvel comics. One could even argue that Warsman's claws are based on Wolverine...

So it's very posivble there is some X-men influence in Demon Seed...

How were they abused exactly?

Well, Chojin hating extremists murdered Jade’s adopted parents (They are both humans.)for raising a Chojin boy. Gepparland was being chased by mobs for wandering into an area with Chojin hating culture when he was given the General Stone by Kyofu no Shou. All of the Demon Seeds except for Ashuraman were the Chojin suffering from unjust persecution by humans. Robin Grande told Robin Mask that some members of Robin family drops out of Chojin not only because love, but also because they were ostracized from their home town by other town's people fearing Chojin's power.

So are Yude fans of Western comics then? In fact, i wonder how popular Western comics are in Japan generally? Are there alot of Japanese fans for X-men, Batman, Spiderman comics and cartoons etc?

Judging from Yude's age, they've probably seen old Fantastic Four, Superman, and Batman animated series as kids back in 60's or 70's. They could've seen Japanese adopted Spiderman live action series. They must've watched Superman Movies with Christopher Reeves. Of course, they saw recent Spiderman movie for Yude starts drawing bunch of crouching down postured characters after Spiderman was released in Japan. On some Japanese forum, there was a short debate over if recent Young Robin Mask mini-series is ripping-o...ahem, inspired by Superman 2 or Spiderman 2.

Superman is pretty well known in Japan for quite a long time, and many people at least heard of names of Spiderman and Batman back in 80's. X-MEN was not much known till animated series was aired in 90's. Around the same time, Japanese publishers launched campaign to boost Western comics, but not with much success. Still, it created enought fandom to keep several Western comics specialty shop alive, some titles to be translated and dojinshi to be published. Oh, yea. A lot of Japanese artists are inspired by Western artists, too.

Currently, Superman, Batman, JLA, X-MEN: Evolutions and Samurai Jack are available at Japanese Cartoon Network.

Hmm, that looks interesting, maybe i'll have to see if i can find that at my nearest comic shop.

I always thought that too.

Robin Grande told Robin Mask that some members of Robin family drops out of Chojin not only because love, but also because they were ostracized from their home town by other town's people fearing Chojin's power.

Yep, that all definitely screams of an X-men setting. It would be interesting if Yude were to explore this issue between Chojins and normal people in more depth in future stories.

On some Japanese forum, there was a short debate over if recent Young Robin Mask mini-series is ripping-o...ahem, inspired by Superman 2 or Spiderman 2.

Inspired by Spiderman 2? What gave them that idea? And yeah, i do seem to recall seeing a picture in one of the pages of the chojin crown saga Kin nisei manga of Kevin Mask somehow crouching on the side of a building wall, near to some windows, reminding me very much of Spiderman.

Superman is pretty well known in Japan for quite a long time, and many people at least heard of names of Spiderman and Batman back in 80's. X-MEN was not much known till animated series was aired in 90's. Around the same time, Japanese publishers launched campaign to boost Western comics, but not with much success. What are dojinshi?
So it sounds like there is a steady western comic interest in Japan, like there is for Japanese manga here in the West.

Currently, Superman, Batman, JLA, X-MEN: Evolutions and Samurai Jack are available at Japanese Cartoon Network.

Doujinshii are fan-made publications in Japan. They can be magazines, manga, whatever, and they can be based on original characters or already established properties. Some think all doujinshii are hentai (literally "pervert", but it also describes anime and manga porn), but they're not. There's a lot of good non-hentai doujinshii, you've just got to know where to look. Watch the anime "Comic Party" for a better understanding.

I'd like to see that, but I'm not expecting that much from Yude. Judging from their interviews, their theme for Nisei manga is father-son relationships and nature v.s. nurture that is derived from the relationship.

Inspired by Spiderman 2? What gave them that idea?

Well, Robin is leaving his superpower behind for a woman, and both Spiderman 2 and Superman 2 have the same aspect in the movie. And of course, it's been really easy for fans tell what kind of movie or T.V. series Yude is into because it shows in their manga. Leaving power for a love is classic theme, but we've seen enough Yude to suspect that they are getting inspiration for this storyline from the movies. Of course, it is hard to plan a series that starts its release on July 20 based on a movie released on July 10 (Spiderman 2 release date in Japan) of the same year.

What are dojinshi?

Dojinshi has a wide definition. It means "publication by people who share common spirits, interest and/or goal". When it first appeared, they are mostly literature publications. Bunch of Japanese literature's giants starts from dojinshi. Following this tradition, many manga artists publish their work by themselves. This category is known as Bungei(literature) and Sousaku(original works) dojinshi.

However, in recent years, like The S said, most of dojinshi published are fan based publications containing fan culminated data, fanfics and fanarts of manga, movie, novels, etc.etc.. They are supposed to be non-profitable publications, but popular publication group known as "circle" can make some money out of this type of dojinshi. (They are exceptionals ones. Most of the circles ends up with deficit, but that is the part of fun of making dojinshi.) The only trouble is this kind of dojinshi can be sued, publisher for copyright infringment. :D In recent years, making dojinshi of Kingdom Hearts the collaboration of Square Enix and Disney was big taboo because "The rat would come across the sea with his lawyer!" :D I believe, this type is pretty close to Western Fanzines.

You can also publish about your pets, your recent trip to somewhere, your family, etc., etc.. In short, you can publish almost anything at your own risk as dojinshi.

Starting this Friday, there will be a huge dojinshi market for any kind of dojinshi. Unfortunately, Ultimate Muscle's allotted date is Friday; many fans with job cannot go, including me. BTW, Western comics's allotted date is Saturday, I believe.

There's a Cartoon Network in Japan? Do you have "Teen Titans" too

Yap. Here is proof. :D

Bummer that we don't really get to see Robin's whole face without his mask, he has a rather long fringe covering his eyes. Looks like Robin's gonna have to come and avenge Mr Bullman if he is defeated by Guillotine King. But how will he get his chojin powers back? Nice summary once again STG! Could you describe what those fan created chojins look like?

In regards to your latest summary, i just knew that mysterious cowboy was Terryman! But what's he doing in England? And how on Earth did he carry one of the rocks from Stonehenge all the way from Salisbury to London?

He was checking on other chojin entering Chojin Olympic. Obviously, he heard a lot about Robin's reputation before hand and had great interst in him for he was stalkin on Robin for several days. And you know, he is chojin capable of swiming all the way from Texas to Japan.

As for Art Yude, no further information was released yet. You can send get well card to him if you want. Just use the WPB address for submit your chojin contest by changing "Kinnikuman: New Chojin Recruitment" to "Mr. Nakai Yoshinori."

This is second time Kinnikuman goes into hiatus due to one of Yude's physical condition. Over ten years ago, Writer Yude sprained lower back and Kinnikuman went into hiatus for three month.

One question: What about Kenkaman? Is he in?

Not yet. His first appearance is next Chojin Olympic Preliminary.

Does anyone have any pics of these fan created Chojin like Gullotine king? Just curious.

A fanartist Yajima Uso have drawn Gullotine King on her website. Just google "Yajima Uso" and you should easily get there.
