A new MIMP toy line has been announced on this site! Supposed to have figures by October 2014. Very curious to see what happens with this:

The web connected part is worrisome. I prefer the mono-minis, but the 2006 series was pretty cool too. I can live with them painted as long as the paint doesn't suck like series 4-7.

But to be honest I will buy them if they are anything better than dog crap.

I'm hoping for the best, but I think they might try to make the whole line too modern with this app connectivity thing. Forget all that crap, just release some sweet sculpts in rubber!

I have a go phone and I never play online games, so any web technology is probably wasted on me. Like Burty, I just want some good figures.

Newer?  Well!

they might be more like the Angry Birds web-connected figures - not a chip, just a QR code stamped on the base.

Kind of like the 2006 series where they had the point value on the base. Instead of a decoder just use your computer?

That "Spyro" game, (it was only identified with him during the first title. Then Activision realized children don't know who he is), is Skylanders.

The greatest amount of money wasted well-spent ever.

easy prediction: the new line isn't very good but classic MIMP prices go up due to consumer nostalgia effect. :)

yeah im sure its gonna be bad, the 2006 series was a waste. Unless they do Mono (which they won't), most collectors are going to care, and if its not connected to a cartoon or video game kids arent going to care either.

There's a 26 episode MIMP cartoon series coming next year.

Praying to the toy gods that they don't screw it up.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but on the small chance it's handled right, what an amazing surprise this release would be.

Yeah... Its gonna suck for sure. The online gimmick seems to kill any nostalgia for me, as if the 2006 MIMP series werent enough of a detatchment from what made the original series so great. I wish commercial' toy developers wouldnt just jump on the current band-wagon of whats selling and putting tasteless modern spins on a classic line. Chances are, its gonna flop.

On the odd chance it proves to be good, I'll print this out and literally eat my words. Somehow, I'm not worried.

I think we should collectively eat our words from this thread if it ends up being an amazing new line! Surely they won't just reboot the classics like they did in 2006. Is it too much to ask for a whole series of new monochromatic figures? Probably, yes it is...

I doubt it will be mono-color figures, but I think it could still be cool if the sculpts are done well and the paint doesn't look bad. I am not going to piss on it until I see what the figures or at least a prototype looks like.

They should take a page out of the Minikins book and offer both painted and monochromatic variations of the figures, but if it's just going to be marketed toward kids, they probably won't.

If these are supposed to come out in October, I'm surprised we haven't seen/heard more about them by now. Hopefully it actually ends up happening.

Wonder if they'll be shown at San Diego Comic Con?

Like most other people I'm skeptical that this new line will capture the magic of the original. To me it just seems like corporate suits and marketing people trying to make profits, but you need more than business and marketing skills to make a really special toyline that captures kids attention. But we'll see.

My question is, when was the paradigm shift? I mean, the majority of us grew up collecting and loving many lines of mono figures, so why are they no longer considered marketable to kids? Whether or not they have a gimmick tied into them really shouldn't be related to the style of the actual figures.

Is it because it's possible to slack on sculpt quality by adding supplemental paint apps for details? Still seems like that would be an overall more costly production process so I'm at a loss about this

In all honesty, I am getting my hopes high. I actually liked that stand alone cartoon so I am hoping its similar to that. If this show turns into Bakugan, you will see my mug shot for strangling someone lol
