This is out on Netflix now!

Whether you are into the specific toys or not every episode is really fun. So much I didn't know about most of this stuff. I would say it's a must watch for toy fans.

Oh wow, cheers for the info Plasticsoul. First one was great, loved the fact it included tidbits on prototypes and knock offs. Look forward to watching the next one later today

*UPDATED*

Was left a little confused by the GIJOE one, no mention of the Palitoy acquisition. Still really interesting though

I liked when they explained that most motu figures were made by booze infused dudes.

Why are there not more episodes?  It says there are going to be 8... but only 4 available for streaming?  Can't be an expensive show to make.  I hope we get the rest soon.  Thanks for turning me onto this thing Plasticsoul.  Really enjoyed it!!  Here's hoping they do some Real Ghostbuster episodes... or maybe even MUSCLE????

(You would have though that they would have mentioned the MOTU figures since Super 7 was so heavily featured)

There are only four now, but there are more in the works. I know they are doing one about Transformers, but I don’t know what else they have planned.

Thank you

Netflix recently started splitting seasons with a handful of shows.  I know they did it with the Getdown too.  Only had ones season, but they staggered the release and split up the episodes for a few months.  Perhaps they are waiting to see what level of viewership there is first.

BTW - apparently not everyone  loves the show.  Here's a review.  I agree that it's pretty light weight in it's depth, but it's better than nothing.  And I especially liked the MOTU episode.

Totally agree Plasticfiend, It was just enough to inspire those who want to research the heritage of a lines history. For people who have a fleeting interest it was just enough. I'm all for backing projects like this as it helps to inspire new ideas

I enjoyed it all.

I agree it's not super deep or incredible technical but for me it goes just far enough to be really interesting without getting boring.

I want more!

I haven't seen it yet. The only thing that stood out to me based on descriptions was that the Joe episode completely sidesteps the Japanese connections in Henshin Cyborg and Microman in leading to the 3.75" era of toys in the 80s. The detail I recall reading was that it made some offhand connection to Star Wars and that was it. It's not nearly as egregious as if a Transformers episode ignored Diaclone and Microman, but I did furrow my brow a bit on hearing that.

It's not going to stop me from checking it out at some point though!

Honestly - it wouldn't surprise me if they do some sidestepping when the Transfomers stuff comes out.  That's half the reason I would love to see a M.U.S.C.L.E. episode.  They would HAVE to go into some of the Japanese stuff as there wouldn't be anything else for them to talk about really.  There wasn't really any MUSCLE related cartoons, comics or media to speak of here in the US.

I could be wrong but I don't really remember M.U.S.C.L.E.s being that big in the UK in the 80s, we never got the other merchandise either. I only remember ever seeing them in cheap market shops, usually the bigger packs/sets. As best I remember I was pretty much the only person I knew of who had them locally until they released a few as cereal promotions

The nes game was sold in Europe back in the 80s I got all my M.U.S.C.L.E.s from market stalls including the bins and large packs.

This sounds way better the the documentary UK Chanel 5 did on the history of Lego a few weeks back. The first 20 odd minutes was fine then it just went downhill. It never mentioned any of the Lego Themes like Castle,City, space even once. Never even said Bionicle ever happened which did pretty much create the build able action figures idea in the west or anything about the insanely over deep story lore they gave it. They also said it was Lego star wars and other non Lego original series that saved the company in 2004 but they had been making such sets years before then yet the way they said made it sound like it was first year they was out. Stop motion Lego animators got like barely any screen time because they though lego movie was more important.

So according to this show Ed Sherean begin a lego fan is more important than Bionicle.

Possibly just local to me then, I don't remember seeing anything in the bigger stores like Woolworths etc etc The most i remember was the odd advert in a comic/magazine

Did they mention James May's Lego house? Still feel for the team that built that, all those man hours wasted because they forgot the planning permission

I enjoyed the series.  Everything that has been posted here, I agree with.

I would like to see episodes about MUSCLE, Garbage Pail Kids, and Boglins (I'm sure Tim Clark would spill-the-beans  :) ).  If we message the show and let them know we like it and make suggestions, maybe we'll get a positive response.

*I have no doubt that there are some members on this board that have a wealth of knowledge on these toy lines. Tell the show.  Who knows what might happen...?

Nope no mention of that either or the Lego video games despite the fact they is alot of and are probably the moat successful toy line to video game series. But this was same thing that though lego not appealing just to Kids was a thing that only happened a few years ago.

I see this series mainly focusing on top tier toy lines I doubt they'll do full episodes on secondary or tertiary toy lines like muscles, battle beasts, gpk, or even thundercats.

It's the toys that made us, not the toys we bought in-between buying the larger more popular toys. Haha

I'm holding out hope for a MEGO episode, but they'll likely keep it 80s-heavy.

I loved there 3.75' figures but not so much the 12'. I'd love to find out where there ideas came from for designs, specially after seeing the GI JOE copy

Maybe, but depending on what they choose to do in the future that would actually work in their favor. A lot of those in-between releases kind of refreshed the main lines and kept them strong, or had a hand in spawning ideas for new lines/revisiting old ones.

It would almost be foolish of them NOT to include them.
