Well according to VIZ at Anime Expo 2004 the reason for Ultimate Muscle being delayed because they wanted to make sure it was in fact unedited.

I like the fact that they didn't want to edit the hell out of this manga.

Eek... The Title on the manga is horrible... Couldn't they keep the original name? (I'm no american so I don't care about Ultimate Muscle and all the dumb names).
I'd like to know if they keep the original names or used the ones from the american dub (I think they couldn't make dumber names for some of them, why Dik Dik van Dik instead of Gazelleman?)?
Looks like I'll have to live with my imported kinnikuman nisei manga...

What does being American have to do with liking/caring about "Ultimate Muscle and all the dumb names"?

Since the manga is targeted for America and the Ultimate Muscle cartoon has played in America, then it only makes good business sense to use the names that the American market is already familiar with. I am an American and I'm not a big fan of the name changes, but, it wouldn't make any sense from a business standpoint for Shonen Jump/Viz to suddenly change all of the names on the American market.

Jadger, definately post a review of Vol. 1 of the manga. I'm interested to see if they changed a lot of the story in the translation like the cartoon or if they were more faithful to the orginal storyline.

Yeah, they should have given them cool names, like Drax.

Soupie: sorry if you like the dub names (targeted at american audience, I think I can hardly find someone ho can reall say he like dik dik van dik beter than gazelle man which is already an american name, thoses changes makes no sens for merespect the original names but I guess yudetamago don't care about that, not all mangaka don't care.

Rokk: thankyou for your answer and also waiting for a review

Doc moor j: the problem is not the americans but those who thinks they need to edit everything for the aucience.

Me. That is the only name change that I liked. I think Dik Dik Van Dik is hilarious. Much more original than the generic Gazelleman. However, I think the rest of the dub names suck.

Personally, I think they would have called him Dik Dik if they had a better grasp of English slang.

And I like it. ^_^

So, what's the verdict?

Virdict is:

If you've been waiting for this manga, the wait was well worth it. It's totaly uncut, very raw and very funny

so? in what sence is this manga uncut and what is? well, the overall product is 100% content wise, hell, even alot of bad japanese jokes where left in,witch added to the sillyness. The only thing that stayed was the english dub names, witch,I dont mind at all.

Translation wise,it's a perfect. It's very to the origenal japanese version, witch is good since it gives a bit more insite on how characters are.

Overall, the manga is a must get. the wait was well worth it and if anyone get's it,they will NOT be disapointed...

...unless you're one of thouse ubber otkau's who like to bee-eye-itch about every little inconsitent thing that the U.S. does, witch is pretty much 100% of all animes and mangas released here.

Sweet! Thanks for the review, Jadger. I'm glad to hear that it is totally uncut. I'm definately going to be enjoying the manga more than the cartoon.

Looks like I'll have to live with my imported kinnikuman nisei manga...

Well the names are targeted at a young demographic, since UM was released basically as a childs cartoon here in the states. I suppose the name Ultimate Muscle comes them trying to tie it in with the MUSCLE toy line that was all the US saw of Kinnikuman before UM showed up. And again on the topic of children audience, try imagining a 4 year old trying to remember and pronounce a name like Mantaro Kinnikuman, or Suguru Kinnikuman, american people have a tough time already correctly pronouncing japanese names so imagine a little kid trying to do it. As for some names that coulda been left alone like Gazzele man or Terry the Kid, I suppose it was just tuned to be more humurous or easy to remember for american kids. Dik Dik van Dik is hilarious according to any 5 year old, plus a Dik Dik is a baby gazzele so its not going too far off kilter, but Terry the Kid turned to Terry "the grand" Kenyon, is probably just aimed towords the american tendancy to put goofy nick names like Joe "super cool" Blow, I have no clue if Terryman/Terry the Kid's real last name is Kenyon, if not im not sure were they pulled Kenyon out of. And others were changed due to political reasons, since having people named after devil's/religious symbols or anything sterotypical is generally looked at as Taboo here, especially in akids show, so thats why Pentagon (which is like a pentagram which is a occult symbol of magic) became Star Face. Complaining about name changes for something as "on the verge of not being around" like Ultimate Muscle is kinda like whining about your Filet Minion being a tiny bit overdone. It could be worse, at least it's not being given the same treatment shows like Card Captor Sakura got to the point hwere the actual storyline was changed due to the editing. I mean Japan and America are two very diffrent races of people and cultures, comapnies have to make money, so some changes are going to have to take place. So if you absolutely have to have it 100% authentic, then buy the orginal Japanese versions like your doing. But I cant understand (I can read though :T) japanese,so I can live with some stupid name changes.
