Been thinking about all of the posts and I came up with the question to ask ourselves about He-Man. First, ignore the Man At Arms variant from wave four. The question is:

would you rather have variant He-Man and Skeletors? e.g. Bolo Blade, Bat Blade, Karate, etc.

or

would you rather have four new figures per wave and He-Man and Skeletor in every case assortment from now until eternity?

I think it was the Star Wars comment I read somewhere that made me think of this. Chewbacca was never redone in the original line, or Darth Vader...they continued to make the same figures over and over for the life of the line. They could have made a new one for each movie, but they did not. They knew that there had to be a Chewie and Darth out there for each movie and kept them in production....

Thoughts?

My choice. Although 2-3 variations of the main figures is okay with me, but any more is lame.

I wouldn't have a problem with a bunch of different variations, as long as they're significantly different. For example, the original He-Man and the Battle Armor He-Man, I would say are significantly different. But the variations on the current figures are basically just weapons changes. I think it would be more fun to have accessory packs instead of these variations.

I do think that they should have the original He-Man and Skeletor available throughout the line. The main problem I had with the Batman line back in the day was that they didn't ship a basic Batman figure after the first.

I think that they should continue to release the orignal he-man and skeletor.

If you start late in the collecting scheme of he-man then you will have to pay a scalper up the yang to get the two main charcters who should be easily found.

I agree completely with Adamantiumwulf. The original He-Man and Skeletor were awesome!

The answers here are more even-tempered than the He-Man.org messageboard. I don't know what happens to our minds as we become more hardcore collectors, but it seems unfathomable to some of our brethren that they would ever need another He-Man. The collectors market cannot support a toyline by themselves. Check out your local Suncoast for many examples

My vote would be for a He-Man/Skeletor variant every other wave. Otherwise, they are going fine in my book.

That's true, although I can't remember the last time I saw a kid buy a Star Wars figure.

I assume the reason why collectors never need another He-man figure is that as soon as they open the figure, they plop it on a shelf and NEVER TOUCH IT AGAIN. Collectors keep a toy secluded as some sort of a religious idol, so that it is never again soiled by the hands of mortals. Kids actually play with their toys, so they need a new version every once in a while. Sometimes collectors need to be reminded that toys are for kids... just like Trix...
