Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition is here, and it is AWESOME! That said, I have yet to play a full game in it, but it looks cool! And with it, D&D Miniatures have finally returned, with a "hero" starter set already out and a full minis set coming soon.
"Icons of the Realms" is a six-figure set of player types (and one named dude), sold in a blister pack. There is nothing blind here, and you can even compare paint jobs! Although these figures kind of vary a little on the paint scale. So let's take a look!
Driz'zt, Drow Elf Ranger
Driz'zt Do'Urden is the John Cena of Dungeons & Dragons. He is super-popular and everybody hates him. This is also his third figure - one really expensive old one, one that came with a dragon, and now this. It's cool and all, but I think we now have enough Driz'zts.
Gold Dwarf Female Cleric
Female Dwarves in D&D do not have beards. THis is also not our first. It refreshing to get another Dwarf who is not Gimli, but interesting how it is our first new one, too. She is kind of small and the sculpt is flat (not like that, you pervert), but suffices.
Human Female Ranger
The color scheme ad general outfit design actually make this one of the best female archer minis even including the old figures! All in all, this is one of my favorites of the set. The set with two rangers.
Lightfoot Halfling Rogue
This Hobbit has shoes. I will sue.
Okay, okay, I know, Halflings wear shoes. Still, his cloak makes him very Hobbitish.
Northlands Human Fighter
Probably the best-looking of the new minis, the Northlands Human Fighter is an excellent brbarian type, even if he resembles that guy from Mighty Max.
Sun Elf Female Wizard
And finally, we get a female elf wizard holding a fireball, not to be confused with the male elf wizard holding a fireball we got back in 2008! She also looks pretty good, with a reasonably complex paint job... and a fireball.
GLORY AWAITS... I guess. Personally, I kind of want to see the monsters, since I am all about monsters - but hey, these new minis are promising! izkids is making them just lk the old D&D miniatures, even including the subtle differences in base construction between them and Pathfinder pieces. SO, here's hoping for the new set!
