Are they still translating the Kinnikuman manga? Do they plan to do the Ultimate Tag Arc or the Current Arc?

Im curious about this myself. Ive asked Mangapanda, Mangareader, and Mangahere on their facebook page yesterday. But i guess going to the translation team directly wouldve been a better idea. Ill see if i can find a way to contact them.

Ok so I've gotten as far as the scramble for the throne arc and the translation has suddenly changed to somebody by the name of Stranger Ataru. Can anybody confirm if this guy translated the remainder of the manga? I don't want to step on any toes but I find his translation to be stiff and practically unreadable (though I do prefer the change of font).
If it's the same guy responsible for translating until the end then I'll switch to the original from here on (I'll have to anyway by the time I reach vol. 37)

Don't want to sound like a snob. Though it had a fair few spelling errors before, it was still a smooth translation but it's suddenly become very literal and stiff sounding....

Thanks and apologies if I've ruffled any feathers!!

They refused all proofing, editing, translating, or fixing because they preferred broken English as it was "closer to the original Japanese," or something like that.  It is pretty unreadable, but all we've got.

Good grief, judging by the poor quality it would seem that you're completely right!!

I'm glad they didn't let him resume beyond the original ending though...

Ok! Thanks for the heads up! I'll grab volumes 28 onwards from the book store on my way home from work tonight!

Incidentally, was the original Kinnikuman ever licensed in the US? I hear that Yudetamago want to expand Kinnikuman's

popularity to an overseas audience so I wonder If they'll ever venture down that road..?

As luck would have it, I'm actually going out for a beer with Yude Shimada-sensei this saturday so I'll ask him about it then!

I have been "friends" with him on twitter for a couple of years. We speak to each other often and send each other New Years cards each year.

A mutual friend has arranged a small gathering at his bar this Saturday for Kinnikuman fans/friends of Yudetamago but there's only about 8 of us going including Shimada-Sensei. Finally we'll be able to meet each other in person!

As for Nakai-Sensei, I've never spoken to him or met him sadly...

We at Team Kinniku (me, the whip cracker for a while until I gave up) used Stranger/Soldier Ataru's translation.  One of the reasons it was so slow was that we had to figure out what Ataru's translation was.  I'm sure some of it was incorrect, but I think the team did a very good job on the early stories.

We just lost people who could edit a chapter together, and the people who redid the sound effects, and it just dissappated.  I'm glad that someone finished the series.  If I ever get back on my feet, I may re-do the crappier writing if I can locate downloads of the series again, but sadly that isn't in the cards anytime in the future.

AT least there's a fansub of the series, now.

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

Of course, like most people, I'm grateful for all the hard work you guys put into releasing it. You're dead right though, It started off really well and was an enjoyable read but the moment Ataru took over translation duties it became really hard to read. I actually had to switch to the original Japanese to finish off...

That said, I can totally appreciate how much work you put into it and I'm dead grateful for that!

Ataru was ALWAYS the translator.  The team had to "translate" his translations.  A perfect example of that is the early one where the zoo animals get enlarged.  We could not make heads or tails of what Natsuko was saying because of the broken English Ataru used.

If you have the original Japanese and the full raws, I can say you can take up the Team Kinniku banner if you want and put out the better translation.  Hell, no expensive programs are needed-- I used MSPaint!  Team Kinniku didn't have a fluent English speaking translator, nor anyone who was very good at editing images.  I did the best I could, but by the time I had a chance to get back to it (Kinnikuman Lady), the webmaster had abandoned us, and Megaupload had deleted every issue that we had done because it was put down!

Oh was he?? Daaammn... You guys had a tough time making sense of his work. Is he not a native speaker?

As for translating Kinnikuman, honestly, I would love to as translation is what I do for a living but due to the legalities of scanlating, combined with the fact I live in Japan and that I am registered on here with my actual name, such an undertaking would be tantamount to playing with a lighter at a gasoline stand!! If people have any questions regarding Japanese/translation however, I'd be glad to help!

If anyone's interested, some guy uploaded all the raws of the original Kinnikuman and even the new Kinnikuman volumes up to 47 about a week and 2 days ago.
