I only have one Beast. Rubberneck was apart of my childhood. So I picked up a complete Rubberneck not to long ago.

It gets very hot in Southern AZ. Up to 120 degrees(F). And running the AC below 80 degrees cost so much money. So I keep the place at 80 degrees just about all the time. Because of that I think I ruined the rub on Rubberneck. It seems like it's stuck on showing the rub faction.(fire)

Good thing I didn't pull the trigger and buy a whole set of Beast when I was thinking of it.

Tried leaving it in the fridge? Might not be permanently gone.

I have been recently considering collecting battle beasts but w/o rubs or weapons. I only have a few because I always pick them up when I see them on the cheap at flea markets. How significant is the price difference?

Without weapons is essentially Half the price and without a rub is a few bucks less. Rubless ones usually go $2-5 depending (I'd aim 2 or 3 bucks unless the paint is in great shape).

I like to have figures in the best condition possible. Which would mean complete. I could go without the weapon but the rub is apart of the core figure as far as I'm concerned. I don't see myself collecting BB anytime soon. It's a big investment. And I'd like to continue other figure interest.

I'll have to stick Rubberneck in the fridge sometime to see if the rub is still working.

Ah,

I'm more about the sculpt and the overall creature design when it comes to collecting so for me the rubs aren't a huge deal.

At 2-3 a pop I would pick up a bunch, looks like 5 a piece is closer to what is common for a lots on ebay

I´m not familiar with leaving the rubsign exposed to higher temperatures for a longer period but the symbol normally appears between 79 and 85 degrees (according to the information from the card) which means that the 80+ degrees temps might indeed cause you´re Beasts to show their symbol permanently. Normally, if the temperature drops, the symbol will also disappear again but leaving it exposed to those temps for a week or more might´ve effect on the heat activated part of the rubsign but as mentioned before that´s not been experienced yet. Personally I´ve had my Beasts showing their symbols for a couple days in a row at max during the hot summer days and they´ve ALL been hiding it again as soon as the temperatures dropped so there´s been no harm done there. Based on this and the quality of the rubsigns, still working after almost 30 years, I doubt that damage might be done to them because of this but as some mentioned above the best way to check it is to hold it in the fridge for a little while because the change will appear very quickly. Of course things become different when the max temperature goes above a certain standard because they can´t handle hot water or extreme temps because that´ll do damage for sure. Let it know when you´ve done the ¨fridge test¨ and how long the 80+ degrees temps have been going on in your area as it might be interesting to know if and how the rubs react to those longer term exposure.

As far as pricing goes the prices of the complete figs are mainly composed out of the fact there the figure + rub + weapon and each part adds a certain amount of value building the total. The figure itself without rub, these days, goes anywhere from $1 (thrift store/flea market) to $5 (also depending upon condition) than a working rubsign normally adds around $2-3 to the figure meaning a figure in good condition with the rub ranges from $4-8 and the weapon adds another big chunk because those days, and with the ¨limited¨ amount of them around (most people are missing the weapons as they´ve gone missing or broke over time), these go for almost equal prices as the figure ranging from $4-7. This leads to a price of around $8-15 for a complete Battle Beast with weapon in good condition and with a working rub. Of course there´s a few exceptions because this doesn´t alway go for Series 2 and 3 Beasts as some are rated a bit higher but for most Series 1 and 2 Beasts this should be a good guideline at the moment.

The fridge test worked reverting the rub to "black". Good to know that it's not ruined.

Hot weather can last a good 4 to 5 months here. So it's a constant 80 degrees in my place for that time.

I'm not to worried about not getting my monies worth. I was set off to find this specific Beast. And I got it for $10 shipped for it being complete.

I hope it can last for a long time in good condition given the climate I live in.

Aha! Victory! :yahoo: Glad to know that worked out for you. You might want to refrigerate the figure every so often to ensure he stays working - and fresh.

meanwhile, I've intentionally kept a BB elephant on the dashboard of my car for about 3 years now. He's slowly sun-bleaching to white; will be interesting to see if that happens before the rubber starts to crumble to dust ;)
