How does the Kinnikuman Parts section of the MCIA work? (The section that "predicts" how many MUSCLE men there are.)

MUSCLE men are the American version of Japanese Kinnikuman. Kinnikuman were released in Japan in a series of sets called "Parts."

(1) Step one of the MCIA Kinnikuman Parts is determining which MUSCLEs belong to which Kinnikuman Parts. All this entails is visiting Naochin's Kinnikuman Parts archive. There you find images of all the Kinnikuman organized by their parts.

A portion of Kinnikuman Part One.

(2) Once you determine which MUSCLE sculpts belong to which Parts, you need to find the "stats" for each MUSCLE sculpt. This entails visiting the MUSCLE Database web site. Determine which colors each sculpt has been recorded as found in by collectors.

Posted Image
A portion of the MUSCLE Database.

(3) Once you know which Kinnikuman Part a MUSCLE sculpt belongs to and have determined which colors it is reported as found in you can compare it to other MUSCLE sculpts that belong to the same Kinnikuman Part. A pattern, or multiple patterns, within each Part will emerge.

In the image below, you are looking at the breakdown of MUSCLEs into Kinnikuman Part one (done by URS). First you must note that the original Kinnikuman Part one consisted of 20 sculpts. However, one of the sculpts was NOT made into a MUSCLE sculpt. Therefore, there are only 19 MUSCLE sculpts in Part one.

You'll notice that in the second grouping (tree two) there are NO MUSCLE sculpts reported to be found in Dark Blue. However, in the first grouping (tree one) there appears to be a pattern, but the pattern is slightly disrupted by reports of finding a few sculpts in Magenta and Orange. However, the pattern is strong enough, that we can be confident in the two groupings (trees).

(4) Once you have all the MUSCLEs organized by which Kinnikuman Part they belong to and by the colors they are reported as found in via the MUSCLE Database, you can organize their images into the MCIA Kinnikuman Parts!

Problems with this method?

The problem with this method can be seen above. You'll note that in the first grouping (tree) of the MCIA Part One that a few figures have been reported in Magenta and Orange. However, I have NO images of sculpts from this grouping in Magenta and Orange. Furthermore, only a few people report having found sculpts from this grouping in Magenta and Orange.

So, I conclude that it is highly likely that these few reports are mistakes. However, there remains the possibility that this grouping DOES come in Magenta and Orange. However, I simply do not have any images of these figures.

Likewise, though no one reports finding sculpts in grouping (tree) two in Dark Blue and I have NO images of sculpts from this grouping in Dark Blue, I can't rule out the possibility that the sculpts assigned to this grouping may indeed be found in Dark Blue.

So you'd like to contribute some colored MUSCLE images to the MUSCLECIA?

Great! Even if you only have one or two figures not documented, send 'em along and I'll slap them into the Archive.

What do you need to do?

Option One

1) Check this thread to make sure someone isn't already working on providing pictures of the MUSCLEs you had in mind.
2) Post in this thread indicating which figures and colors you'd like to contribute.
3) Take a high resolution shot of the figures you have (with a white/light background).
4) PM me, Soups, when you're finished, and I'll give you my email address.
5) Email me the picture(s).

I'll take it from there!

Option Two

1) Check this thread to see what is needed/ in process.
2) Take individual pictures of your figures (with a white/light background).
3) Crop them down to 125 x 125, including a one pixel, black border.
4) Label each picture like so:

Three Digit Number + Color

Example: #2 Light Blue would be written as 002lb

(Check here to determine the numbers of your MUSCLEs.)

Here's the color code:

Red = r

(Dark) Purple = p
Light Purple (Grape) = lp

(Neon) Green = g
(Neon) Orange = o

Dark Blue = db
Light Blue = lb

*Be careful not to get Magenta and Salmon confused!*

Magenta = m
Salmon = s

(Check here to determine the colors of your MUSCLEs.)

5) PM me, Soups, to let me know which figures you have finished and to get my email address.
6) Email me the pictures (in a Zip file).

There is a Contributers Page. If you'd like, I can add your name along with a link to any URL of your choosing!

See the posts below for visual examples! (Isn't this fun, kids?)

Below is an example of how this will work.

First we have two, fairly typical eBay MUSCLE auction pictures:

Send me pictures comparable to these, and I will digitally seperate the figures.

Once I receive the pictures, I will edit them like so:

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Granted, this isn't the ideal way to do this; However, it is the most realistic. Working as a team, we should have all the colored MUSCLEs documented in roughly 47 years.

:(

By the way, welcome to the AKIA forums. While you're here, take some time to look around.

Just an FYI, I'll be getting a bunch of figures from Jkaris. When those show up, and I'm putting them away, I'll take any pictures that will be helpful.

Thank you for taking on this task.

I still say it would be helpful if we dumped the collections of people we don't know. :(

Very cool concept. I am eager to see it develop. I will be sending some pics this weekend. Any particular colors or figures aside from the few you already requested? Only one gripe, the page resolution seems to be large. I have a 19" monitor and the page does not even fit on my screen, I would assume that would seem huge for the few that still have small monitors or low screen resolution.

Only one gripe, the page resolution seems to be large.  I have a 19" monitor and the page does not even fit on my screen, I would assume that would seem huge for the few that still have small monitors or low screen resolution.

Yes, this bothers me too. I don't mind scrolling down, but I absolutely hate scrolling over.

I don't have the site set up to display at a different resolution or anything; the need to scroll over is just a result of having ten 125 x 125 images side-by-side. I orginally had the images at a resultion of 150 x 150, and they made the screen way too wide. However, I hesitate to reduce the image dimensions any more than 125 x 125. (The images at Naochin's site are 130 x 130.)

For example, look at figures #008 and #010: If the pictures were any smaller, they'd be pretty difficult to tell apart.

;)

I have a 24" monitor at home with the resolution set to 1152 x 864, and I still have to scroll over to see all the images. (Just a little, though.)

My work monitor is 14" with a resolution of 1024 x 768 and while fewer images fit on the screen, it is managable.

Unless someone can think of a creative solution, I think it is a necessary evil of having so many colors.

As for figure images to provide, your list at MDB isn't current, so I would just say any figures after #028 and #022 and #023.

Post here though, so others know what you're working on!

I just picked up a bag of MUSCLES at a thrift store today and noticed about 11 of them you don't have on your colors page.

Attached is a picture of them you are welcome to use.

Alright, all the images of Arforbes' colored MUSCLE collection have been edited, identified, and uploaded to the MCIA.

I've also made a few changes to the MCIA in anticipation of the Kinnikuman Parts archive which I will soon begin assembling.

Once I have arranged all the colored MUSCLE images into kin parts, I will know definitively which colored MUSCLE images are missing.

Once I know for certain, I'll post the list in this thread.

(Click on my banner below for a quick link to the MCIA.)

I want to extend a special thanks to the following people:

Jkaris for providing the AKIA, allowing me to communicate with MUSCLE collectors

Tortle for providing the HTML framework for the archive

Veers for simply supporting the archive and providing the first images

Arforbes for providing an assload of colored MUSCLE images that make up the bulk of the archive

Beligerant1, Doc, and others for also supplying many images... some with pubs in them

Luke Oram for the sweet artwork

URS for his brainpower and work to break the MUSCLEs into the Kinnikuman parts and trees

Thanks guys!

I have 033 and 061 in SALMON, but I havn't a method of photographing them currently.

I can say that they do exist, however. Does that go with evidence?

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.
