okay, this review is based solely on one of the many two-packs in this series, the "clark/superman" set. they seem to be about 2 1/2 inches tall, and they cost about $10.

these things never seem to sell at the local comic shop. while they can't manage to keep micronauts, imen and omega male stikfas in stock, these just hang around collecting dust - and for good reason.

they suck!

some stats - these figures have a paltry 6 points of articulation, and none of them are ball-joints.because of this, the figures always look like they're doing their best "frankenstein" impression.

the "clark" figure is especially lame. all they did was take some of the existing hero body parts, and paint a suit on the body, so clark ends up looking like some sort of failed male stripper with a poor gimmick, or as though he's ditched the "super man" persona for "executive tightass man".

in closing, unless you're a big dc fan, or there just happens to be a certain figure in the series that represents a character that you geek out for, these simply suck and your money could be better spent paying an old man to dance a jig to continuous loop of "the safety dance".

i'm not sure why you'd want to see them, but here's a link to a rather large image of these figures...

;) I agree!! These are the only set of figures that the guy at my comic shop just cannot unload! I have no idea why DC bothered to waste time and money making these crappy figures.

Ugh they do look terrible especially the round heads with the painted on faces. The original Mego pocket heroes wipe their behinds with these ones.

I wholeheartedly agree, these are a BAD idea....

I bought the Silver age GL set, only because I mark out for Hal Jordan.....but they are a pale example of the superheroes they represent....

the DC Direct Hal is a far cry better IMHO!

they should have either made them in true "blocky" format, at least used ball joints and gone with at least 10 points of articulation, or made smaller versions of those kickass super powers figures.

that would blow these crappy things out the water.

These aren't supposed to be like MOTU and TMNT and UM figures, they're supposed to be a certian style of toy, it's called like kubrick or something, and dc just made their own. I guess to some people it's collective or cute, but in my opinion i agree with you they do suck.

well, i am VERY familiar with the "blocky" lines that many companies offer.

mini-mates, imen, kubricks, blockos, mez-itz, bearbricks, music kids, lucky bear, etc.

i have about 50 of these type of toys in my collection, so like i said, the "blocky" format is something that i'm very familiar with.

that being said, this doesn't change my previously stated opinion in the least bit. these "pocket heroes" suck, and hard.

dc pocket suck@$$...
it's not enough that the sculpting is bad...
i have always been a sucker for starman, and doctor midnight...
bought the starman/ shade set...
and i took them out, played with them for a second... and shade's tupid blocky head came off.
their joints get loose, super fast.
the paint applications suck.
the articulation is horrible.

it's figures like these that give the block figure genre a bad name.

(i'm starting to dig the stikfas again... i've figured out how to adhere sculpy premo 'attachments' to them... so they are fun again...)

final thought...
if you have them, melt them.
and the quality control guys that let these little plastic cancers through, should be maimed in front of his children.

This is a very old thread, and I don't know if it was reviewed again, but I wished to point my opinion on these figures.

First off, I think they're not that bad. It is true that these figures have no the detailed sculpt as in other lines, brands, series, etc. But this is one of my very favorites precisely because they're unique, they have their own style, someone said that the round painted faces is a defect but this is probably one of the thing I most like about them, it gives them a "comic" style.

The figures have no the regular size than other figures, they even have no correct proportions, but I understand that was that the intention, to make singular frame for those super-heroes sculpted zillion of times, this time D I F F E R E N T......

In my opinion these are quite nice and had become collectible through the years, I have about 30 of these and I am behind of the rest.

It's just my very humble opinion of course, if you still want melting them is your decision, mine look pretty well in my shelves along my other figures......

Thye're hard to defend for sure, but just like nihonsei I kind of like them.

I liked to pick a 2-pack on the comic store from time to time, and the JL:A boxset allowed to get biggest names all at once:

Beside, the JLA conference table set is pretty sweet, but I never found it cheap. It round the set up nicely.

I liked the idea of being able to get a cute superman figure, a bunch of supporting characters, villains and allies for a few buck at a time (it's always fun to be able to buy figure from the shelf from time to time), all the while they fit in a confy little box that don't take too much space ;)
