I've been thinking alot lately about how I can contribute more to this site. Over time I came up with the idea of doing quick reviews of LRG. I thought would be a fun way share the figures I appreciate the most and get a discussion going.

#1 Marx American GI (carrying wounded)
Era: 1960's
Size:54 mm
From where: Local thrift store
Why is it awesome? I have loved plastic soldiers since I was a little kid. Not only is the detail on these old Marx figures amazing, what is more awesome than one plastic soldier carrying another?
Fun fact: it's actually two separate plastic soldiers.

The vintage army men had way more detail.  If you're into army men, I have about 5 lots for sale on my ebay page this month including WWII British Sten Gunners.

#2 DFC Wizard
Era: Original 1980's, Recasts 1990's.
From where: Red Original from ebay, blue recast TRU.

Why is it awesome? I got my first DFC figures(recasts) in the early 90's in a bagged set. As a kid he was the ultimate figure in a plastic soldier army (Casting fireballs and forcefields).

Fun Fact: I never knew the DFC made these till a few years ago. Now I have a large DFC figure army with Wizards, ogres, lava men, Knights and more.

Man I wish I still had this set....

I don't think those wounded soldiers came with that set, but I had the wounded guy at least. I used him as a "hit by grenade" guy as it can look like he's being blown back.

That set is NOT all marx. The vehicles and terrain and German Soldiers are Marx. The green and blue soldiers are from various companies

No, that boxed set is the one I had.

Once I looked at it on the computer I can see that there are Marx green GIs there! I do see some Tim Mee Vietnam soldiers and others in the mix.

And I believe you are right, the wounded soldier did not come in that set.

#3 GUTS! Laser Fighter Slinger
From where: original (broken), thrift store, newer from a collectible show.

Why is it awesome? I got a bag of Mattel GUTS! from a thrift store two decades ago. There were many Laser Fighters in the mix. Slinger was one of them. They were futuristic super soldiers and I absolutely loved them. Unfortunately, my original Slinger's left hand broke off.

Fun fact: On the card art on the back of the Laser Fighter packages it shows Slinger holding a rifle in his left hand instead of a shield.

#4 Tim Mee Navy Sailor
From where: thrift store
Why is it awesome? When I was younger I only had plastic army men. Over the years I learned that toy companies not only made soldiers, but also sailors, air force and more. Hes the only true sailor I have in my toy soldier army.
Fun fact: During the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor a truck on land near the ships was plastered by a bomb. Some sailors took the time in the middle of the attack to raid the free pies and ice cream etc that was undamaged.

To be fair, what are a bunch of dudes going to do on the ground? You can't hide from a random bombing run. May as well go out eating some delicious treats.

I know right?? Funny thing is a few pages later I read another story that one sailor was swimmimg to land with one arm. They all thought he lost his arm, but it turned out he was carrying a giant canned ham in the other! Lol

#5 Panosh Combat Commando (Navy Seal type]
Era: 1980s
Where from? EBay
Why is it awesome? I dont know why but I am crazy about Panosh combat Commandos. They are just PVC army men that swivel at the waist. There are several poses with repaints of each.
I got 2 MOC sets in 2013 and the backer card shows a variety of figures.
Panosh%20Commandos%204_zpsfsnjt6fc.jpg

This particular guy as a kid and I always saw him as a navy seal type. The childhood one is long gone, but I have since found one on ebay and one at the thrift store.
Did you know? Soma also made similar army men figures. They, however, were rubber and did not swivel at the waist.

#6 Applause Super Mario with Mushroom
Era: 1980s
Where from :Mall circa 1989/1990

Why is it awesome? How is vintage Nintendo merchandise not awesome? Applause had released a boatload of various licenced merchandise but their Nintendo line is by far my favorite. I have snagged many over the years, mostly on ebay, but this one I got decades ago is still a classic in my collection. He's a litle beat up but I wouldn't trade him for anything.
Did you know? Applause's Nintendo line also incuded Zelda and Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Little Mac seems to be the rarest of figures IMO.

#7 Jakks World of Nintendo Metroid
Era: 2016
Where From: Collectible Show

Why is it awesome? I think many of us NES fans have awaited years for affordable Metroid figures. Jakks has recently delivered big time with their World of Nintendo line. Not only did they make a giant Metroid, but earlier this fall they released this little one. It's squishy like its big brother, but the teeth dont move. Overall its a great figure. Jakks has also released a Samus figure around the same size.

Do any of you remember? When in Super Metroid the Giant Metroid comes to your rescue in your fight against Mother Brain. Wasnt that one of the most awesome video game moments ever?

EDIT: the teeth actually do not move on the small metroid, but they do move on the large one.

Like it was yesterday, brother!

Super Metroid is definitely on my list of favourite games, (and always will be.) I didn't know the teeth moved on the small one also. I'll need to muck about with mine when I get home!

I've got a neat project planned for the big one. Though I have absolutely no clue when I'll get around to starting it.

#8 Minimates Kyle Reese with Hunter Killer (Damaged version)

Era: 2010's
Where from? Toys R Us

Why is it awesome? There are not that many Kyle Reese figures out there. This Reese figures is cool in particular because he's dressed in his cool future swag.
SAM_0504.jpg

He also comes with a few neat accessories and an awesome Hunter Killer vehicle.

Fun Fact: Dark Horse comics published a comic storyline titled "Terminator 1984/2029" with an alternate history where Kyle Reese actually survived the events from the first movie.

My opinion: I have always thought that the classic designs for the original Hunter Killer Machines from the first two Terminator movies were the best.

#9 Hot Wheels Zombot

Era: 1980s (1987)
Where From: Various

Not a LRG, but and awesome die cast robot car. The original casting was the gold pictured. When I was a youngster I loved this car it was one of my favorites. It can stand like a figure and looks great within a collection of figures.

You can read more about it here:
https://www.hobbydb....f5-16e11663b053

Fun Fact #1 They made several repaints for this car, the most recent in 2016.
100_3977_zpsryqz0ai7.jpg

Fun Fact #2 Mattel also casted another robot car called the "Computer Warrior"
