Asia Toy Hunting Musings May 20

My luggage has long been packed and I start my 30 day journey to Asia once again (as an American living in Germany it still amazes me that Germans have between 28-34 days vacation a year! in the U.S. a sabbatical is a big deal for example but at most lasts about 30 days).

As I toy hunt (more importantly for Kinkeshi) I will make posts and also give the 411 on the toy stores. I wish I knew back then what I know now as I have since discovered more vintage toy spots.

My first stop is Hong Kong....

Usually I like an evening flight (that way I can sleep through the night) but I had an afternoon flight. So after drinking a ton of coffee I am up but it's still too early to toy hunt! Toy stores in Asia usually don't open until 12 or 3pm.

Luckily this store in Hong Kong called: Superman Toys opened at 12 (I bought all of my current Japanese Pro Wrestling Sofubi last Spring).

They randomly had a complete Flesh set of the Gashapon kinnikuman Part 5 2018 kinkeshi

This I was actually missing (usually I like to buy all 20 sculpts at once in Flesh, Red & Blue) but I held out on buying it due to being afraid it would not get to Germany in time before my vacation.

So I bought it (it must be a good sign!)

Then I went to Yoshinoya :)

If you have travelled to Japan you are probably well aware of this chain restaurant.

It's a cheap guilty pleasure!

Since I can't visit Japan this year I always make it a point to eat there when in Hong Kong

Superman Toys is located inside The CTMA center in Hong Kong

The Asian retail store UNIQLO currently has a line/collection of T Shirts celebrating the 50th anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump.

Among the Mangas is of course Kinnikuman (2 Shirts). I also really liked a Captain Tsubasa and Saint Seiya T-Shirt but those are sold out.

The kinnikuman shirts are suttle and for about the equivalent of 11 EUR each I cannot complain.

I like the little Easter eggs located on the left hand corner of the back of the shirts (see Terryman hugging the puppy!)

Just nuts how much anime/Mangas are ingrained into a culture/country. I walked by a florist and they had really beautiful Sailor Moon flower arrangements (by character).

Pretty hard to discretely take pictures since it's not officially allowed; luckily most of the stores had not opened yet yesterday:

Some kinnikuman sightings and I finally had time to watch Avengers (avoided spoilers although I knew going in what would happen since I read comics when I was a kid). Anytime I am in Hong Kong, I get my haircut at the ultraman salon (Point Cut)!

Nice score!

Are Kinnikuman toys widespread throughout Japan or are they a little difficult to find?

I'm in Hong Kong but in comparison, kinnikuman is way more widespread in Japan.

Friday's toy haul:

1-Kinnikuman Kinkeshi Premium The Best Vol 2

I randomly found this in a stand for 399 Hong Kong dollars (circa $50 U.S.)

I have been to Hong Kong 5 times and during each visit I hit "Ins Point" a couple of times.

Each time/visit I see something different and unfortunately most sellers are opting to sell more and more Legos and Hot Toys.

I was here last September and so much since that time has changed.

I found some random kinkeshi but I am at the point of almost having 3 complete vintage 418 sets and a pretty good chunk of a Master Kinkeshi Set (1,494 total); so everything I find I already have.

So it was nice getting this premium set!

2-Some Super Sentai vinyl figures

3-Shocker Kamen Rider Sofubi.

Spotted a Korean restaurant in Hong Kong (went to South Korea in 2016 and the food was amazing) and on the way I bought a bootleg Ultraman set from a newstand!

The Kaiju are the best part!

Saturday score:

I have been fighting collecting Kamen Rider/Super Sentai/Power Rangers; Power Rangers especially being a big part of my childhood besides Pro Wrestling. The Red Ranger was always my favorite! So I could not pass on this Japanese Red Ranger set.

You've  picked up some good stuff, I dont know much about all of it, but I know that Kinkeshi premium set was a great score !

Talking of which, I ordered a set of the latest Kinkeshi Premium 5 back on the 3rd May, via Yahoo Japan, and I never recieved it, would appear that it has got lost in transit, they are looking into an investigation within Japan post. First time this has happened !. (gutted)

Mike: It could be held in customs; that happens to me all the time. Packages arrive to the country in 3 days sometimes but get held at customs for over 2 weeks (the tracking also doesn't reflect that). If you had it shipped on May 3rd I would not sweat it.
