If I woulda won,I would have had an art contest to where no computers could be used in the art making process. :)

Why? I had 3 entries myself done on the computer that all lost. Do you think the computer drew Nate's picture? It's just a tool, like a pencil or a brush. My favorite entry was "Reccoom Kaboom – Gruesome Tyrannoclaw", and that wasn't done on a computer. It's just for fun. Don't take it so hard.

No,I don't  But Even Nate's sketch was really good, that's why I voted for him.
'Just a tool'?
It's be like an art contest where people were using pencil, pens and crayons, and then one guy coming in with his full air-brush kit. It's an unfair advantage because not everybody knows how to use or has access to those 'tools'. I know its just for fun,but realisticly it's more than that that for me.

Hey Art is Art no matter if you use Crayon, Pencil, Airbrush or Computer. I may find a Pencil drawing way cooler than a Cumputerized one or visa versa. Don't take it hard, learn from your mistakes and your triumphs. They only make you stronger. I for one loved your Meat on the Drill, I thought that was just perfect.

It is all in the person who is looking at the Art, just remember that, and don't give up. :)

I've got an idea. Start a contest thread where you pick the subject and we can only draw it in pencil. With pencils, the contest need only run a week. I promise I will enter. Then have a voting poll. The prize: If you win, then you've proved your point. Design an entire contest around YOUR strengths and disallow anything that you haven't mastered. If you feel that is a more fair contest then start one up. I'll be there.

Having the next contest be restricted to pencils is actually a pretty cool idea. I'm up for it! :)

Any ideas for the subject matter, gang?

I'm in for another contest, although I'm not happy with a just pencil entry cause my scanner won't scan pencil well at all, that's the only reason I had to ink my entries first. And I'm not gonna use a camera cause that's why I bought a scanner D@mnit!!

All you have to do is click Auto Adjust Levels, or Auto Adjust Contrast when you get your pencil scan in Photoshop and it'll show up perfectly.

No it won't scan all of the pencil marks. I don't have photoshop either. I've tried it. I don't have any high quality art pencils or anything anymore either.

I've got an idea,do what you want! MY suggestion was to keep it 'Traditional'. I was'nt just limiting it to pencils. You could use anything you want, just not a computer (Exception: scanning).

But what do you consider to be "traditional"?

Regardless, it seems that no matter how we try to level the competition, there will be always be someone who will cry foul. For example, I do a lot of watercolor painting. If I do that for the next competition, then will the people who use markers be complaining that the contest is unfair because they're unable to get the same type of gradations with markers? Will the watercolor people cry foul on the oil paint people because oil paint can get much smoother and more realistic colors? Every medium has its limits. And the mediums that have the nicest effects are often the hardest to use.

I think people may assume that since I did the Tortle picture on a computer that it was somehow easier. That single image took about 8 hours, minimum... much longer than it takes me to complete a watercolor painting.

Anyway, whatever the consensus is, is cool by me. Even if we decide to do the competition with crayons, I'm okay with it. :D

The thing is,anybody can pick up a pencil, ink pen, crayon, paint brush, chalk .But not everyone knows the first thing about how to do art on the computer. That's all I'm saying. :D

someone needs to pick a direction for the next contest, cuz my brain's leaking out all these great concepts that I'm sure to foget if i don't sketch em soon.

Also, what's gonna happen to all the art challenge 1 entries? will there be a gallery marked art 1 or something?

I like Kevin's Godbeast vs. Chyoujin idea. I'm all for the hand drawn rule, if that's the way everyone wants to go, but I don't like the just pencil thing. I think it should be hand drawn art where you can use any kind of utensil (Pencil, Marker, Crayon, Paint, Soupie's Momma's dirty underwear, etc...) However you can use any Computer art tools to Crop, Enhance, or paste, etc... without extremeley affecting your original piece so that it practically becomes a freehand/photoshop hybrid. I'll just have to dig around and see if I can find some of my old art supplies. :D

I guess that makes sense. :D
