I'm going to work on creating a checklist to identify all the Super Mario related minifigures by K'nex.

These figures have been released variously in one non-blind-bag series, six blind-bag series, several 3-packs (which contain two visible figures and one blind figure), with buildable vehicles in the Mariokart line, and within buildable K'nex playsets in other Super Mario lines.

The whole toyline is worth examining to point out:

1. Which figures have been made available in multiple blind-bag series

2. Which figures have been made available multiple times in buildable playsets, 3-packs, and additional blind-bags

3. Which figures are (currently) exclusive to a particular blind-bag series or a particular construction playset

4. Which blind-bag series figures are "rare" (as they were produced in significantly fewer numbers)

5. How many total figure exist in the toyline

First I will look at the single figure packs, then the 3-figure packs, and then the figures from the construction sets.

This toyline began in 2012 with four figures available in single bags.  These bags were not "blind," as each package identified the figure inside.  The figures were: Mario, Luigi, Green Yoshi, and Bowser.

The buildable bikes and karts in the the Mariokart line also began at this time. To date, the figures available with the bikes and karts have all been available individually, either in the initial non-blind series or the six subsequent blind-bag series.

Later in 2012, the first blind-bag series was released.  This series was called "Mariokart Wii" and featured the four figures that were released in the non-blind packs, plus three more figures.  In 2013, another blind-bag series was released called "Super Mario Bros Wii."  This series featured a total of nine figures -- seven of which are new to the line.  Apparently the figures were catching on in popularity, and K'nex began a numbering system with the next series being Series 2.  Retroactively, I will call "Super Mario Bros Wii" Series 1, and "Mariokart Wii" Series 0.

If this seems confusing, just look at the picture with all the wrappers combined in one image.

Next, I will talk about the 3-figure packs.

This package type contains two visible figures and one blind figure.  The blind figure is consistent -- in other words -- you will always get the same blind figure per each unique 3-pack.

To date, five different 3-packs have been released.  The initial three 3-packs were released in 2013.  The fourth 3-pack was released in 2014.  In stores, the newest pack appears in a "wave" with only the two most recent packs.  Thus, it seems that the first pack (38866) and second pack (38867) have been "retired."

Production artwork for a sixth 3-pack has been released, but since collectors have not seen it in person (and the blind figure is not known), I will update this when that pack has been made available.

Here are the known 3-packs.  The blind or "mystery" figure is underlined. TP stands for Three Pack in coding the checklist.

TP1. Fire Mario + Hammer Bro + Bob-Omb (38866)

TP2. Golden Mario + Fire Luigi + Golden Bullet Bill (38867)

TP3. Boomerang Mario + Koopa Troopa + Boomerang Flower (38868)

TP4. Luigi + Goomba + Shy Guy (38822)

TP5. Flying Squirrel Mario + Fire Toad + Ice Flower (38833)

TP6. Cannon Box Mario + Skipsqeak + ??? (38817) -- Not Yet Released

Compared to the figures available in the blind-bags, we have an additional repacks.  To date, all three figures from the first 3-pack have also appeared in blind-bags.

Here are pictures of the packaging for four 3-packs, as well as a picture of the packaging inserts which reveals the blind figure for each of those 3-packs.

Finally, here I will mention the K'nex Super Mario construction playsets.  This does not include the buildable Mariokart bikes, carts, or tracks (which feature no new or exclusive figures).  There are 14 construction playsets.  I have them listed from lowest to highest retail price.  Many of the figures that also appear in the blind-bag series first appeared in these higher-priced playsets.

Checklist Code -- K'nex Item Number -- Product Name -- Minifigures -- Retail Price

CS1.   -- 38419 -- Stacked Goombas Set -- Mario, 2 Goombas -- $17

CS2.   -- 38420 -- Dry Bones Set -- Fire Mario, Dry Bones -- $17

CS3.   -- 38421 -- Reznor Set -- White Racoon Mario, Reznor -- $17

CS4.   -- 38623 -- Desert Set -- Gold Block Mario, 2 Gold Goombas -- $35

CS5.   -- 38624 -- Beach Set -- Racoon Mario, Fox Luigi, 2 Cheep-Cheeps -- $35

CS6.   -- 38635 -- Cat Mario Set -- Cat Mario, Mouse -- $35

CS7.   -- 38673 -- Cannon Set -- Mario, Luigi, Bullet Bill -- $35

CS8.   -- 38625 -- Prongo Set -- Tanooki Mario, Prongo -- $40

CS9.   -- 38875 -- Chain Chomp Set -- Racoon Mario, Chain Chomp -- $50

CS10. -- 38527 -- Thwomps Set -- Fire Mario, Silver Luigi, Bone Goomba, Thwomps -- $65

Figures available in the construction sets will be coded CS1-CS14 (see list above).

Figures also available within the Mariokart sets will be coded MK.  No further distinction will be made since these are duplicate figures in straightforward sets.

*I may add other power-up "figures" to the list since the Ice Flower and Boomerang Flower have been packaged with the same emphasis as character-based figures.

I've been following these since the very first Mario Kart blind bags (though I didn't buy any until Toad came out). These are really adorable, but I feel like they're slowing down on introducing new characters. I really want the Koopalings, Birdo, Rosalina, and Toadette. Also, more 3D world stuff like Cat versions of the other characters and the Sprixie Princesses.

Also, Blind Bag Series #6 was shown at Toy Fair:

UK%2BToy%2BFair%2B2015%2BKNex%2BMario%2B

In a way, it's nice, since people who missed Daisy or Boo will have another chance to get them, but c'mon. The Skipsqueak is the only new character, who is already in the triple pack.

Thanks.  I was not aware that series 6 was shown at Toyfair.  100% repacks. Unbelievable!  Though I did personally miss buying Fox Luigi from the construction set.

Seems like Toys-r-Us is dumping stock...we've been seeing the big playsets in clearance bins...

Yeah, same thing happened to me with a Dry Bones.  Too frail, too blocky, etc.  Pass.
