My apartment complex's manager's office has stopped receiving and holding packages that are larger than resident's mail box. So now large packages are sent back to my area's main post office.(which is about 10 miles from my place) So I'v been thinking of getting a PO Box at the smaller post office down the street. Here's my questions.

How much does a PO Box normally cost? Does it really matter how big of a PO Box you get?

What happens when you get something larger than the PO Box? Does the post office that you have a PO Box with keep the package in the back?(warehouse)

I don't know what to do other than getting a PO Box to get my packages.

My PO box is about $60 a year. If I get something too big for the box, they put a key in my box and put the package in the large boxes in the back of the post office. If they run out of big boxes or the packages are too big for the bigger box, they'll put a notice in my box and I can pick up the package at the counter.

Thanks for the info. That's the route I might have to take.

I concur with Mr. Monster on both the general price and handling of large boxes.  That is exactly how it worked in both locations where I used PO boxes in TX and CA. And usually the PO boxes are in the unsecured lobby so that even if the post office is closed you can access mail after hour.  Not 100% sure this is everywhere, but it has been like that every PO I have paid attention too.

Can also concur on how personal experience has worked out with PO boxes. For more specific concerns though, and maybe should've done it in the first place to be absolutely sure of all details, you should actually ask your local post office for these details too.
