A new Post up on the Beastformers Blog about a Battle between two legendary Battle Beasts; Striped Clear Carp VS Stone Cobra.

Who´s the most rare of the two and why? (link via the image above)

As a part of this new post, and the research done into them combining all the fragmented information that´s posted here and via other pages on the web, both figures also have their own page on the Blog now where more background information on them can be found. Hope it´ll be an interesting read and I´m curious to see/hear if you´d agree with the outcome after reading the post as well as the both individual pages of each Beast.

You can also vote for yourself in the Poll that´s created above, which Beast do you believe is more rare?

Enjoy the Beasts!

IMHO Striped Carp is more rare, but I like Stone Cobra more, he has a backstory and looks cooler. I notice though customizers are more adapt at reproducing Stone Cobra rather than Striped Carp.

Agreed, and as mentioned on the Stone Cobra page the promotion campaign surrounding the Stone Cobra was much stronger than the one for the Striped Clear Carp because it literally had none. Which means the Stone Cobra was made rarer by Takara in general otherwise the Striped Clear Carp would have received a much stronger campaign as well or at least imho it´d have made it onto the box art of the Punch-Box which it didn´t either.

Another good thing to keep in mind here, which I didn´t mention in the article, is the date/period during which both promotions probably ran. Because the Stone Cobra promotion obviously ran during the Battle Beasts release period when the play sets dropped. This has most likely been around the 3rd quarter of 1987 in Japan with the first Series 1 Beasts being promoted in Jun 1987. With this in mind and the final date of the promotion, Jan 31st 1988 (which also might´ve been extended or this was the extended date(?)) it might´ve been around for a relatively long period. And if the promotion was indeed extended because of the success it´s highly likely extra Stone Cobra´s had to be produced.

Now looking at the Striped Clear Carp which came as a prize item in the Punch-Box together with much later released Laser Beasts like Grotess and King Buster this might´ve been around much later in 1988 and we all know the sudden end of the line so it´s unclear how long it actually stretched.

It remains speculation not knowing the actual numbers of these rare figures being released but the promotion campaign, or the lack of it, surrounding these Beasts might be a key detail here...

I am not sure about which one is more rare now, as I haven't really seen either up for sale in recent memory, although I haven't been searching that hard either. I voted for Stone Cobra though as when I was collecting together of all my laser beasts and rarer items about 10 years ago, I would see Striped Carps up for sale more often than Stone Cobras.
