The Wii is the best selling console of this generation. It has outsold both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. So, clearly SOMEBODY thinks it's the best of this generation.

Sales:
Wii: 96.56 million
Xbox 360: 68.3 million
Playstation 3: 63.9 million

Who's planning on buying one?

We don't know all the details yet, but there should be three different bundles available:

One priced at $249.99
Another at $299.99
And another at $349.99

The speculation on those leaked prices is about what combination of regular Wii remotes, Wii U Tablets, and Nintendo Land (game), and possible included virtual content will be packaged with the systems.

So, who is planning on buying one?

I will when the price goes down. Although the hardware for Nintendo consoles the past two generations has been really lacking, you can't deny they have the best exclusive software, so I'll get it at some point, although chances are I'll get Sony's new console first.

This summarizes my thinking about it as well. I was late getting a Wii and still have lots of fun to have with it. In a couple of years I will get a Wii U once the price drops below $200 and a good library of first party games are established (Mario, Pikmin, Mario Kart, etc.).

Yeah, I hope the tablet controller is decent as well, I found myself skipping a lot of great Wii titles because my brain just didn't agree with the Wii remote, and I didn't want to shell out the $20 for a classic controller. That, and, I hate motion controls, they're just annoying.

I'll be buying it, everything Nintendo does is gold in my eyes. I'll most likely get the new xbox as well, and since i hate sony and the playstation I wont be getting that for sure.

I like the Wii.
I don't know if I am that into the idea of the Wii U tablet control, and all, but I am sure by the time I break down into buying one, Nintendo will have ironed out any kinks.

Even though a lot of my friends poo poo Nintendo, they still come out with just plain FUN games. They may not have all these first person shooters or super violent games, they make FUN games that I will play over and over. I was on the fence about getting the Wii U, thinking it just being more of the same, but after going to this year's E3, they had some pretty compelling games coming out for it. Nintendo is having a Wii U event here in L.A. in a couple of weeks that should be pretty cool.
Any you guys have a 3ds? Friend codes???

Your statement sums up how I feel about video games. I play games to unwind and have a little fun for many a few hours a week. First party Nintendo games (Mario, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Zelda, etc.) allow for this sort of experience. The types of games available for Xbox and Playstation just offer a completely different type of "gaming" experience that I have just never been interested in.

I'll buy one when they are at least half price, not before.

In my opinion the best console stuff nintendo ever made was for the snes.

The best part of the Wii was downloading old games.

They suck at porting over the games i want the most(i wanted the japanese exclusive fatal frame sequel so bad it hurt).

So the fact i have the actual games i love for the nes snes n64 and gamecube already makes getting something new pointless until they have at least a couple years of software out again.

I am more interested in what they release in the handheld market these days.

Bring that SNES comment up to N64 and I'll agree with you. And, Nintendo still makes amazing handhelds.

Just preordered mine today, was going to sell my Wii today but the price is awful so im going to keep it to play my Cube games.
Wii U looks good and yet again Nintendo have come up with something that I guess Microsoft and Sony might copy eventually.
Speaking of the Snes I picked one of those up the other day. :)

Like others here, I love Nintendo, and think their first party games are as good as anything else around. I've been a Nintendo fan since I was six years old, and have purchased every home console they've released (pretty sure the 3DS, GBA, Gameboy Color, and Virtual Boy were the only ones I passed on). BUT, I haven't played the Wii much at all beyond those handful of great first party games. May get this later on, but I'm in no big rush.

You passed on GBA? If you ask me, the GBA was amazing. I understand why you skipped the other three, though.

My wife goes apeshit for Nintendo products. So you can bet we'll have the top-level Wii-U on the day it releases.

I always loves the NES and SNES, but hated anything after those (except the gameboy), but i bought a 3DS for my oldest daughter for xmas, and its pretty cool.

Im thinking of getting a Wii for my youngest daughter for xmas, but should i just go straight in and get a Wii U?

I still aint all that keen on the Wii though

I would personally recommend just getting the Wii U, simply because like most companies, Nintendo will likely abandon the previous generation console. Meaning you won't get any of the new games, which may or may not frustrate your kid. But, you know your daughter better than I do, (obviously), so if you think she'd be content with playing the older generation games, go for the Wii. It'll be cheaper in terms of both the console, and the games. You just might have a problem finding some of the accessories if they do end up discontinuing Wii products.

Well, the Wii U will play Wii games and it uses the exact same remotes. So, if at some point you or your daughter upgraded to a Wii U you'd have all the remotes and games available to use. In the short term to see if you and your daughter even like Nintendo's style of motion controls and games, I think you should get a cheap Wii.

This year is the PERFECT time to do that because of the following:

Walmart Black Friday Wii (console only, no game): $89
Current Wii bundle with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort: $129.99

Upcoming holiday Wii bundle with Just Dance 4: $129.99
Upcoming Skylanders BLUE Wii bundle with a toy included and the Skylanders game: $149.99

I think you should get one of those bundles for all the reasons I mentioned above. It's a cheap experiment to see if you like it, and all of the components can be used later for the Wii U if you decide to upgrade.
