Hi everyone, I am new here; but not new to MIMP. When I was a kid I had hundreds of S1 MIMPS including the mountain, the board game with the ball launcher; and several cereal premiums. I remember always wanting S2 but I could never find them at any stores when I was a kid. These were some of my favorite toys growing up; and I was devastated as a teen when they all accidentally got given to good will; along with all of my 80's/90's G.I. Joes and Ninja Turtles. Ouch! Still miss them. Still have my Spinjas though.

Anyway, I bought a complete set of standard color S1 about a year ago; and recently decided that was just not enough. So, here I am setting out to get my hands on every possible S1 color and eventually S2.

I have a couple of questions regarding the different international releases.

1. Besides the premiums, were the neon matchbox S1 ever released in the U.S.? I know I've never seen anything other than the standard four colors and cereal premiums in Arizona where I am from.

2. is there any way to tell for instance, a Red U.S. Matchbox release from say a U.K./European red? Were there any different stamps on the feet to distinguish them from each other?

3. Are the Sonrics MIMPS stamped differently than the matchbox to ID them as well?

4. What about Greece, Itally, argentina Etc?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

On another note, I have been working on an excel spreadsheet checklist based on the info from http://www.monstercollecting.com; so all credit goes to the owner; I am just compiling the information into excel for my own uses. So far I have finished compiling the matchbox S1 standard, neon and premium releases. I will eventually try to add all of the other countries to the list when I have time. I have attached the file to this post if anyone is interested.

1. Besides the premiums, were the neon matchbox S1 ever released in the U.S.? I know I've never seen anything other than the standard four colors and cereal premiums in Arizona where I am from.

Yes, most of the neons were released here. The others were released in France

2. is there any way to tell for instance, a Red U.S. Matchbox release from say a U.K./European red? Were there any different stamps on the feet to distinguish them from each other?

All the Matchbox were the same sculpt, but the feet have a factory letter on them. Not sure if the letters differ though

3. Are the Sonrics MIMPS stamped differently than the matchbox to ID them as well?

Sonrics are a different size and color, and the feet stamp was slightly different. Most don't have "China" on the foot.

4. What about Greece, Itally, argentina Etc?

All different sizes and mostly different colors than ours. Italy are also sculpted much worse. Greek have different point values and Argentina MIMP have no point values.

Great information thanks!

I would be interested to know more about the factory stamps on the feet if anyone knows if they were different or not.

Some pics of the Sonrics MIMP feet stamps would be helpful.

I didnt realize that the Sonrics were smaller. Were they from a secondary mold made from official released versions or something? Sounds kind of bootleg.

Well the thing that will work in your favor is that Sonrics just come in odd colors. If you see one that is black. clear, etc etc. It is most likely a sonrics. Plus the price difference should be a nice little hint too. Usually common sonrics seem to go for $10+ and regular mimps are less than $1 unless super rare.

Yeah the Sonrics should be easy; I was just looking for more detailed info. Mexico got the better end of the stick when it came to variety lol.

@Bigburty I have been wanting to collect for years now. I was really bummed when I lost my collection. Its been fun finding out about all of the different colors that I had never known anything about. I got enough old Joes and Turtles figures to keep me happy; so it looks like MIMP is going to be the focus of my collecting for the foreseeable future.

Are some neon figures (non premium) more scarce than others because they were released outside the USA? I imagine the release in America would have been larger than France's release and thus less figures of each model in those colors. For instance I have never seen a neon yellow T Rex or Neon Green Behemoth on ebay. Is this true for series 2 as well as I have never seen a neon green dragon.

The France ones are harder to find. They appear on Ebay less often. I have an Excel spreadsheet of the ones that Fkro and I believe were France only or not. It also is a list of all the known matchbox colors and Series 1 Matchbox Promo figures. If anyone wants one just message me.

Hi and welcome
I had the same moment a couple of weeks back.
I'm trying to collect series 1 original colours, a complete neon set and all the premiums
Plus series 2 in all colours and as many series 3 as possible.
It's going pretty well so far but does take a lot of time scouring the globe for what you need!
Good luck with your noble quest!

Is your spreadsheet more complete than monstercollecting.com? It seems like there are some things missing from there. For instance, I am positive that my Cereal promo cockatrice was neon pink which is not shown on monstercollecting.com. Wish I still had it.

EDIT: I take that back. Maybe it was what they have listed as neon magenta (Looked pink to me). Anyway, just curious how complete the list is on that site anyway. IDK though, I remember mine being a true neon pink rather than that pinkish-redish neon magenta.

Thanks for the welcom Jackowock. Good luck in your hunt.

You can get a pink (magenta) premium Cockatrice, as well as a neon red (NR) Cockatrice. A quick eBay complete listings search and you'll probably find a pink Cockatrice that had sold recently. Cockatrice was always one of my favourites as a child.

In my opinion US and Euro figures are exactly the same, they come from the same chinese manufacture.

Monster Collecting has every Series 1 premium discovered thus far.

Presumably you weren't looking in the "Premium" section?

Pink Cockatrice was the only premium I had in my small collection of childhood MIMPs, and still the only color of him that I have

Yeah I just remember mine being a lot more pink than the pick under the premium section on the monstercollecting.com. He is one of my favorites as well.

Yes I was looking at the right section. Mine was just a much brighter pink then the one they have in the pic. Could be my monitor or the pic or something maybe.

@Bachamn

That is definitely the cockatrice I had as a kid. I was gonna buy it; but with $5 s/h it gets to be a pretty pricey figure. Probably not out of the ballpark; but $19.99 sounds about retail to me; and I am a bargain hunter. Thanks for the heads up though. I may get the itch enough to pick it up.

The one on Monster collecting is the same pink, sometimes the colors look different (for instance the rubber might be different or monitor colors). My spreadsheet is basically the same as Monstercollecting except that it attempts to distinguish which neons are from France or not.

I like them the best as well. Save for some of the more unusual Sonrics ones.

my guess is that this type of variation probably has more to do with the lighting conditions and camera sensor used to take the photo.
