Showcase #10: Kinkeshi 28 Packs (Part 1 to Part 11)

Wednesday May 1st, 2017 (decided to combine old posts into one)

After purchasing the Kinnikuman reissue Kinkeshi/DVD set and a visit to Japan the madness began for me. I went to Mandarake and bought all the 28 packs I could get my hands on. I tried to complete my collection and then looked online for about a year acquiring a Part here and another Part there (mostly yahoojapan). Today I finally completed my collection and now I have all Eleven parts. Besides completing my MUSCLE Flesh set this year, completing the 28 packs was super awesome for me. I will post pics of each part individually. So keep an eye out!

Along with the classic keshi 28 Packs (11 Packs total) 2 Crystal Keshi packs were released as well.

I have Vol 2 and have looked for Vol 1 but I have only seen it once (tried bidding on it on yahoo japan but the price went over 300 EUR so I tapped out LOL).

I just own a pretty mint Box #2; they are made of a different material unlike the vintage rubber Kinkeshi but still rubbery. These sets are quite expensive.

Unfortunately they never made all 418 in Crystal form but just a few.

Is it a more PVC like material? Like American muscles? Shouldn't cause any damage to either the box or the figures if that is the case. I guess it would depend on how your storing/displaying them. Never seen these before. Pretty great!

No they didn't release all like this, only the 2 28 packs.

They can get UV discoloration, but nothing will happen from leaving them in the package.

Nice boxes, I wish I never sold mine.

And yeah a lot of vintage keshi was sold in 28 boxes, Ultraman, Fist of the North Star, Super Mario Brothers, etc...

I think I might have a couple of these loose and could never really pinpoint which set they came from. Mine are soft and rubbery but not like an eraser/keshi (if that makes sense). Is that how these are?

Thanks Ericnilla for that link! That helped me out a lot in figuring out what I currently have and also in regards to the Crytal Kenshi

Here is a pic of the inside :D (Part #2 has a spinning/removable head Ashuraman!)

They feel like the vintage/original Kinkeshi just a bit different but they are rubber.

Part 1

The first 28 Pack is probably the most common of the 28 packs and easiest to acquire online (at yahoojapan or even at Mandarake you can buy this pack for about $10-$20 + shipping). I see them all the time but finding a mint one is not easy but most of them are in good shape (box wise).

I own two of these (One of them I bought at Mandarake and one I acquired in a yahoojapan lot).

Both are different (the one from Mandarake has a white tray and the one I got online has a blue tray).

Both have the same Keshi (except for one keshi! 3rd Row: 3rd Figure) and they also differ in the trays the came with (One is complete: dice and playing board).

The Blue tray for example has a box for the dice (of course I have no way of knowing if this is just another tray from another 28 Pack like Ultraman or FOTNS but I imagine the white trays are the standard since all the other parts had white trays).

The 28 Packs themselves where like a MUSCLE board game (or the other way around I guess).

Part 2

Like the first 28 Pack, Part 2 is also readily available and easy to acquire online (at again yahoojapan and Mandarake for about the same $10-$20 + shipping price range).

I also own two of these (One bought at Mandarake and one at yahoojapan).

Like Part 1 both sets are exactly the same except for one keshi! (3rd Row: 3rd Figure is different and I don’t know why and which set is correct).

One 28 pack is complete with dice and playing board. I found a Japanese website link thanks to EricNilla but unfortunately could not figure out exactly which Keshi are in which respective packs (unlike the meticulous UofM Mattel 28 Packs info including list of figures etc).

The board game art is really cool on these (quite simple but that’s the charm to them).

Part 3

The first four 28 Packs, are readily available and easy to acquire online (at again yahoojapan and Mandarake).

Part 3 might cost a little more than $20 + shipping (depending on condition).

I also own two of these; both are exactly the same as far as I can tell. One 28 pack is complete with dice and playing board. Which was great since my first Part three was incomplete (missing one figure, game board & dice). Not to mention the box being in bad shape; so it was nice getting one in great shape!

Finding a copyright year is also difficult (some have them and some dont); since am a language trainer/linguist here in Germany I have students from different countries.

One of which is from Japan and I showed him the 28 packs which he remembered as a child but he too could not find a copyright year on some of the boxes (weird right?).

Also at some point the marking on the back of the Keshi figures switches from the Poppy "P" to the Bandai "B".

Part 4

The part four 28 Pack might cost a little more than $20 + shipping (depending on condition). But ditto on this set like the other three parts in regards to buying it online.

I also own two of these and both are exactly the same except for the back of the packaging!

For some reason the back of both parts have different box art! One 28 pack is complete with dice and playing board but I have no explanation for the variant back art and again I even showed my student and asked if he could find a copyright year but no dice.

More to come tomorrow :)

Part 5

The part five 28 Pack will cost more than the first four (I paid about $30 for mine at Mandarke in person but it was complete/has the sealed plastic over the tray & figures). My second 28 pack is also complete and in good condition (I dont see them too often on yahoojapan though) but the game board is not uncut.

Both are exactly the same; the board game started to differ in format here but its rare to find them uncut because naturally kids would use the cards and tear them up.

The part six 28 Pack will also cost more than the first four and I don't see them too often on yahoojapan.

Part 7

For the part seven 28 Pack they decided to have stills from the anime on the back art. This set is missing 1 figure (if anyone knows which figure it is please let me know!) besides that its complete but bummer that am missing 1 figure.

This set in my opinion is hard to come by online but if your patient they will pop up on yahoojapan or another Japanese online toy store (if you find yourself in Japan though it will be priced adequately at an affordable price).

The part eight 28 Pack will pop up online state side; I own two of them but I find them cheaper from Japanese sites like yahoojapan.

Part 9

Ditto for the part nine 28 Pack in terms of it being harder to find stateside or on online Japanese sites. I would guess that the availability of the later 28 packs is also due in part to the figures included in the set. In those later packs you get some of the "rarer" figures or more expensive figures from the later parts of the kinkeshi collection (for me Parts 24 to Part 30 are more difficult to collect based on the prices of a few keshi).
