I think they set themselves up for a much better movie by focusing on Scott Lang as apposed to Henry Pym...(although I know they will both be part of this). Scott has always been the more down to earth regular guy of the two and that will translate well in the movie with the audience more than a brilliant scientist type I think. I still find it strange that they are placing the creation of Ultron at Tony Stark's feet for Avengers 2 when they have a movie with Pym coming out a few months later. Maybe they should have flipped these releases and revised some for canon. Anyways, I think it has great potential, but we will see!

Scott Lang has always been a pretty good character, but the new series is killing it. It's got more of that GotG flair, where it's a solid mix of comedy and action. Given how Lang acts in the comics, Rudd was the perfect choice to play him.

Yeah! I really look forward to several gags where the fighting is all epic and crazy then it zooms out to reveal the funny locations they are fighting just like that train scene. "Ant-Man" calls for that kid of tongue in cheek comedy. The costumes and story seem pretty solid as well. has there been any mention if he will get pulled into future avengers movies or not? That would be keen, especially if they can also give him the "Giant-Man" powers eventually. Could come in handy versus Thanos.

Maybe they should have flipped these releases and revised some for canon. Anyways, I think it has great potential, but we will see!

Two reasons I think they did this.  First off... the Antman move was in the works long before a lot of the post Avengers movies.  Edgar Wright was originally the show runner, and started working on it as early as 2007.  For a long time, they weren't even sure that they were going to tie it into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Once it became clear that they were going to tie it in, Whedon... in order to give Ultron his proper "Gravitas" wanted to tie it into Iron Man because they felt that it made sense as a practical extension of the character.  And for continuity sake it's much more rewarding that way... as opposed to try cramming Hank Pym and the creation of Ultron into a single movie or two.

If you think about it, we have seen Stark experiment with AI all the way back to the first Iron Man and getting more sophisticated w/ each movie.  Think of everything from Jarvis, to the little robot that helps him in the lab.  Now fast forward to Iron Man 3 and we have manless indy Iron Men coming in and saving the day.

I think by making Ultron a further extension of Stark (and Banner), it's a bit of a natural progression.  Also it fits in with the idea that I think Iron Man doesn't want to be Iron Man forever.  If there was a way for him to build something that could do the "super heroics" in his place - then he would.

And thus things fall apart.

I hope Antman does well, I think it looks fun.  But in the larger scheme of things it could be a bit of the red-headed step child of the MCU because it was placed into continuity as an afterthought not part of the original plan.

Just my FYI! : )

I agree, I am really enjoying the new book. I was happy when they found a way to bring Lang back to life after he "died" in Avengers Unassembled...I know this was done for the purpose of the movie and to create hype but never the less I'll take it. I think it is hilarious that he has Grizzly working for him and I wonder what kind of future dynamic that might play in the series...(I was a massive fan of the Thunderbolts, especially the last incantations run by Osborn). I would love to see more washed up heroes and villains show up in this book.

I agree with your outlook on this as well. Don't get me wrong, I think they built a plausible story that certainly fits...I'm just a stickler for old school canon!

Dude, I am an Osborn guy, so his TB team and Dark Avengers were just what I like.

But yeah, they hit all of the right notes with this incarnation of Ant-Man, and it's really earnest for what it is.

1. Any thoughts on Yellowjacket being someone other than Hank Pym (in this case, fictional character Darren Cross played by actor Corey Stoll)?  And on being the villain?

2. Any thought on Paul Rudd as the lead?  I've seen so many of his movies and I think he does well in comedies.  My favorites are Role Models, Wanderlust, I Love You Man, Dinner for Schmucks, and of course, Anchorman and Anchorman 2.  I think putting someone known for comedies in the lead in action movies seem to work these days, and Chris Pratt in Guardians might be the benchmark.  I read that Vince Gilligan, creator of "Breaking Bad" said that if you can do comedy, then you can do drama.  A lot of the BB cast, including Saul Goodman and his two henchmen are known as comics -- stand-up even.  Anyway, I think Paul Rudd is a good choice for Ant-Man, and I hope it does well.

3. Any thoughts on product placement? Or toys? When I saw Thomas the Tank Engine in the trailer, I thought for sure that property must be owned by Disney, but it is not.  Furthermore, Thomas and Friends toys are made by Mattel, whereas Marvel toys are made by Hasbro.  Not that this matters at all -- Disney pretty much has everyone working for them.  Haha.

4. Hopefully Disney gave Rick Moranis a cameo.

I mean, the Darren Cross character IS Scott Lang's big reason for becoming Ant-Man. As for him having acquired the Yellowjacket shit through dubious means? I'm okay with it. Most of the people complaining, don't really follow the comics anyways, they're just nerd-raging about what they read on wikipedia.

I just have to laugh, because the same people that complain about Ant-Man not being Hank Pym, are the same people that love Guardians of the Galaxy despite the fact that it was based off of the team compiled during Annihilation Conquest, in 2007-2008, and not the originals. Fickle comic fans are fickle.

I'd like to say what a horrible movie it is, even though I have yet to see it...

Oh wait this is not a DC movie thread...

Never mind.

I saw it yesterday and I thought it was great.  I'd rank it in the top third of Marvel movies, which is pretty impressive since it's not a character I cared about going in.  It was funny and didn't really drag.
