The Swarm Alienwas one of the last figures to be relased in the Aliens vs. Predator Line- they made two different electronic guys, and marketed them in Europe. Basically, here's the running theme for the Aliens toys:
The farther along they go, the less they resemble the real thing.
The epitome is with the swarm alien- "With piercing Laser Eyes."
WOAHWOAHWOAH!! HOLD IT!!! Eyes? You can give them wings, spider legs, tentacles, fur, etc... but EVERYONE knows that aliens don't have eyes! This made me a little skeptical of the creature at first.
However, the "eyes" look more like one big orange visor, so it's okay- and it lights up nicely, too.
Articulation-wise... the tail rotates, the legs somewhat move, and the wings kind of flap. Not too much here.
Special-features- it can make noise and light its "eyes" up, but that's not the major fun part. The thing is, the "Swarm Alien" is in fact TWO aliens! I can't find any pics of this, but you have one winged, fly-like alien, and one grasshopper-esque "host" alien, both of whom combine to form one big super alien. This is actually a really great idea- and both parts look good when apart or together.
Also, the alien just looks plain cool. the sounds sound like a bird, though... so he's mroe of a display piece than a "Plaything," but I still really like the bug.
