Okay, as per the MUSCLE Color Code, we know that MUSCLE figures were molded together in groups (trees) of 4-10 figures. The figures in these groups will all be found in the same colors. For example: If one figure in the group is found in orange, all the other figures in the group will have been made in orange.

URS and Tortle have each individually shown that certain of these trees were used for the MUSCLE 28-packs. Of course combinations of trees that equaled exactly 28 figures were used.

When I first began organizing images of the MUSCLEs into the trees/groups that URS determined they belonged to, I was very curious to see if a pattern would emerge that would explain how Mattel arrived at their poster numbering scheme. Unfortunately, there did not seem to be any correspondence between the MUSCLE trees and the numbering scheme on the poster.

However, it just recently sunk in that the figures in the 28-packs were exclusive to the 28-packs. That is, they couldn't be found in 4-packs or 10-packs.

So I'm wondering, did the poster numbering scheme have anything to do with which packaging the figures came in: 4-pack, 10-pack, or 28-pack?

I don't think so. There are instances on the poster where figures from the same tree will be numbered right after another, but I never noticed any ongoing coincidence. For instance the very first two figures. Muscleman and Terribull, sure both were from the same board game, but both are also from two different trees. But jump down to 177 and you will see the other Green Board game characters right next to him (except 179)

The quickest way to really determine this is to look at Nate's 28 pack page. He has a pick of each figure per box, and their number right below each in numerical order. Although some show up close to each other, and even side by side, the mix seems to be way to random to really tell.

I've looked at this numerous times myself. I have determined that some seemingly purposely placed figures must be nothing more than coincidence. I believe they added them to the poster as they pulled them from a pile and took pictures. So there may have been some piled closely together that belonged to the same trees.

I could be wrong though, and may have overlooked something. Naaah...:D

You mean 233? It was just the final number of available figures licensed for use to Mattel by Bandai. Theoretically there should have been more figures, but we don't know why some Kinnikuman sculpts were not used, or made into muscle plastic. The back of the 28 pack box features a mock up figure poster which vividly shows WAY more than 233 figures. There is not current understanding why the other 200+ figures from the kinnikuman line were not made. My only conclusion is that these figures molds were still in active use by Bandai at the time, or copyright and contracts changed when these 200 plus figures were made, and only the previous 21 parts of figures were old enough to not be affected by such.

Many people have sacrificed their lives to discover the deepness of Muscle and Kinnikuman conspiracy. We should humbly have a moment of silence for these brave souls.

Let us continue in their stead to determine the great mysteries of the Muscle Legacy! :D

You want a connection...

Football player to Volley Ball Man add their 2 #s and you should get 233!

In all seriousness I really believe due to the lack of moving playability of the figures, Mattel decided to make M.U.S.C.L.E.s have a large mental part(sort of like mind games). All these mind games are most poignant when accompanied with the M.U.S.C.L.E. poster. Numbers and characteristics of each figure most likely was created with miniskull purpose

ex Football Player#134 to Volley Ball Man#99 add their 2 #s and you should get 233! Volley Ball Man #99 and the Football Player without a ball #69 has a jersey with #99 on it. 69 + 164 = 233 and #164 is a Muscleman with Shoulder Pads on!

Coincidence I think Not! In fact there are many other instances where this happens, but it is all up to the openmindness of the viewer, and a little bit of a strong mind!
