I feel the seller is the one who's not getting the most ire here.

THAT'S a great point! That's the person who I feel committed the most egregious faux pas.

Both are wrong for doing this, but yup, the seller is one overall responsible. It's not the buyer's fault if the seller puts something up for auction with blind folds on (not knowing its true value). Just a dirty situation.

Incidentally, the seller has just contacted me after being rather upset by the somewhat unpleasant emails she received from Strontiumdog regarding the matter, and has informed me that her son will now keep the figures full stop, rather than sell them to anyone at all.
So there we go, an example of how flying off the handle without calmly thinking things through first can put a downer on everything As I say, Karma...

You say Karma, I say what goes around comes around. It came around and got you if the seller really decided to hang on to the stuff.

A clarification on this: I have messaged the seller a few times, and if she found any of the messages "unpleasant", then that is because it is an uncomfortable situation for her, knowing that she has broken the law and broken eBay's trading rules, and not because I have written anything abusive. I have every single message sent and received still saved if anyone wants to see them.

How has Ebay responded? Have they restricted the seller's account, or just gave you your money back?

Just to clarify, this was an auction listing that was then turned into a Buy it Now listing? They didn't just take the auction down right without a winner and then sell to you right?

That's correct Phil, the entire transaction was conducted on eBay with no eBay rules being broken from start to finish (well, not by me anyway).

@Vette: The seller refunded my money 2 days after I won the auction, although I notified eBay of what they had done, I haven't had a response back from them yet, not sure if I will. I also had to get eBay to remove the offensive feedback she left me :)

How the heck did she leave negative feedback as the seller? Or was is a meanly written positive feedback?
