I understand there is a wealth of knowledge on the internet but it'll just be faster if I ask you guys about this stuff. Especially considering the fact that my main go-to source for this stuff is apparently kinda-sorta wrong.

At any rate, I want to know how many of the listed variants on the LRGuides are actual, confirmed variants as opposed to factory defects or one-off finds or what-have-you.

A few of the things I'm not 100% on:

Black face gorilla

Tortoise (Is there 3 or 2? it was recently talked about in I believe one of my own threads)

Dark mustard porcupine. The pictures on the guide show unpainted side burns, but mine is definitely the dark colour but has painted sideburns.

Short rabbit.

And then all the different figures with slightly different shades of armour. Are these just factory differences or what? I'm on the fence about really diving into the different shades of armour, if those are really a thing.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks guys! (And gals?)

The variants are one of the topics I'd like to have discussed this year out here but we've tried it before and we always end up having discussions about whether some have to be considered as Variants (figs which are sort of meant to be different, or at least produced in larger numbers) or we've to deal with factory errors. For the 'basic' known and accepted ones you can have a look at my blog where most of the common variants are present. Ones that are not on here you can consider as different falling probably in the topic of factory errors, still have to update this part later on because even in here I don't think its really fair to name the unpainted teeth ones as Variant because its just the paint missing but that's for a later discussion. Have a look here for the most common ones (only the Full Shell Turtle and Short Round tailed Rabbit are not shown here)

http://beastformers....items/variants/

Hope this helps to get started.

For some the Mustard Porcupine is considered a variant because of the different color but if you start looking at these differences you can name a ton more of figs which can be found in slightly different colors (Pink/Purple Carp/ Bison with different shades of Purple and so on)...... I've never felt something for adding these to the Variant list because it doesn't make a lot of sence IMHO

Yeah, for the tortoise, there is three different variants. The standard tortoise seems to be black plastic, painted orange armor with half a shell, the other half printed with Hasbro, etc... The first variant tortoise is cast in orange plastic, and has painted black skin. The last variant is a tortoise cast in black plastic and painted orange armor, just like the standard tortoise, but with a full shell.

The one thing I wonder, are all full shell tortoises cast in black plastic? Are there any full shell tortoises cast in orange plastic. Every full shell I have seen was in black plastic, and every orange plastic tortoise I have seen was a half shell tortoise.

GJNL's site is a good break down for most of the accepted variants, versus what may just be factory errors I have a feeling that a lot of beasts that have an unpainted area of the beast, like unpainted teeth on a Squirrely Squirrel, etc... is more of a factory error. I have a Pixalated Pointer, where all the areas that should be pink on the left side of his body (eye, vent) is unpainted. It's makes him look like he only has one eye. But I am sure that he's just a factory error.

Black-faced gorilla needs to be removed as a 'variant' from the guide. It was just a missed paint app.

Yea but factory errors are bloody cool as we'll.
I'm always hunting for factory errors,
My prize is the half painted beak on a rainbow Sam I have. I've also seen a grin reefer with a similar issue. Both are very cool.
I'm with GJNL it can get silly with all the slight color changes but I think it all depends on the collector and how much you want to get into them.

Start off with the bigger variants like orange gorrila black mole and work your way down the list.
Who knows you may find something we've all missed.
Enjoy mate. J

how you can afford it????????

Easily:

Slowly.

You don't have to be everything at once. What I currently have of my set I've amassed over the last 16 or so months.

Hello everyone, it has been a loooong time since my last visit ! My collection grows up little by little..

I just got a little treasure for me : a killer hound in very good condition !! By looking at it, now that I have my hands around, I didn't think this colour was like this. To me, it's a beautiful turquoise colour (blue-green), but on each photo of it on the net it looks very different :

-either too pale blue : 094a.jpg

- or too dark blue :94KillerHound1a.jpg

I will try to post a good photo of it, I don't think it's a variant, but I wanted to be clear about it ;).

Thanks for the answers !

Hi Chris, a picture taken with or without flash can make a huge difference when it comes to showing the actual colors of the figure.

It is not completely clear to me whether one of the figs above is yours or if they´re still both references from the web and your planning to update a pic of yours soon.

So far I can only confirm that the armor of the Killer Hound is indeed more towards a Turquoise color instead of a Dark Blue one as shown in the last pic but that has everything to do with lighting or the absence of it at the moment the picture was taken.

At this moment I´ve never heard or seen a Killer Hound that has a completely different color shade but it wouldn´t be impossible because we´ve seen little shade differences among some BB (Carp, Bison, Bird, etc) before so it is possible. The best way to do a comparison would be to take a shot with the color difference one beside a normal one but that would only be possible if you´d have two of them. See if you can get some detailed pics up in case its not one of the two in your topic above, taken under daylight conditions and without flash so we can have a look.
