So I see a post like this and always wonder what to do? I always jump to the dilemma that if they don't gain the knowledge on their own do they deserve the top $$?

Maybe not top dollar - but certainly fair dollar.  I think it's always good to inform folks of what they have.  I think it's good karma and they will appreciate the gesture in the long run.

Yeah but I get sick of these guys that just buy all the toys in sight, post a picture and have everyone do the work so they can list them properly on ebay. I feel by informing them I am encouraging and enabling non collectors to continue the buy/sell just for the money game. I get the toy id help on unmarked stuff, but too many posts are too help people make profit and not enrich the community. I agree with your above statement if I were to buy with the intent to resell. I dunno if my justification is warranted or if I need to check my cheapness/greed gauge?

I will usually help out people here on this forum, since we are a community. But outside these walls unless i know you, i don't usually help anyone else out. especially since all the knowledge is out there for them to research themselves. Most people don't want to put in the effort, so in that case i will usually low-ball them.

And i absolutely won't help known resellers, only collectors.

Same, and I am a reseller myself so its not like I don't understand both sides of the coin.  If you aim to buy low sell high it is 100% your own responsibility to know what you are buying and the value you can get for them.  I will help anyone who seems to be genuinely interested in learning for collecting/knowledge sake, but anyone out there attempting to flip with someone else doing the leg work..........no way Jose.

Well as far as your cheapness/ greed gauge - I would STILL never offer more than what you would normally be willing to pay.  What it's worth to you is more important than what it's "worth".  But yeah, it would give me pause if I know for a fact that the guy is just trying to resell.  But I still think I would fall on the side of informing him... or at least pointing him to a few sites that would provide him with the info he seeks.

Thanks guy i think i have justified my arts of getting a good deal. I have no issue with people doing the homework and asking a fair price but i think i will stick to my getting some good stuff in trade without informing them of the cost.

On a side not one thing I LOVE is that there is no MIMP or Muscle price guide. Sure you have the numb skulls who ask 20 a figure for a common one, but it also gives you more of a chance to get a good deal! As I have collected I have come to like this, as I appreciated the figure for itself and not the worth more often, and it is fun to haggle with people when there is no fixed amount (mostly in trades).

I agree. It's all too easy to post something on ebay hoping to make a quick buck. If a seller is posting something, they should know what they're selling.

Jesus this thread is depressing.

It's kind of rare to see people boasting about knowingly taking advantage of people, but hey, this is why I got out of MUSCLE collecting.

Interesting. I would not look at it as taking advantage of someone. Rudimentary research would lead someone to finding out more about this item. I equate ebay to a garage sale; If I see something for a low price I'd snatch it up and wouldn't feel bad about it. If someone is too lazy to do a bit of research it's not someone else's obligation to do it for them.

Different strokes for different folks, and I certainly see both sides.

However, I've turned to being open and honest. There was certainly a time when I tried to snag a deal from a dummy, but I stopped liking that. It felt wrong to me. Plus it creates sellers like make-an-offer.

I could have tried to steal away the SGS, but being cool about it seemed like the best decision.

I mean, sure, if you're a carny then Everybody that knows less than you is a mark.
I get it.

We're not just talking about eBay BIN auctions, though. We're shaming people for asking, and withholding information for the sake of making or saving a buck or two... it's even shittier when you apply this logic to trading with people.

Every once in a blue moon I will get the itch to collect MUSCLE again, then I will run across posts like these and think " good riddance". If it's worth all of that to you, go ahead and have them all, IDGAF.

I would not be down with shaming people for asking or applying that logic when trading with another. You seem to be making me out to be a bad person just because I would jump at a good deal. I once got a sealed flesh trash can for about $10 on ebay. Should I have told the seller it was worth more? Should I have asked him if he knew it was worth more and was purposely setting the price low just to sell it? Should we tell a seller who's selling a lot of 30 flesh figures for $30 with a Satan Cross in it that he should be selling it for more? I also don't see how not providing prices for clueless sellers can be compared to making somebody a mark.

There's quite a difference between buying from a seller that has listed something low, and the ethic of intentionally lowballi g somebody I. A trade, or not answering a seller when they ask to be educated. I wasn't sure I had to outline the difference, but hyperbolize however you like.

And I agree with you. I thought this particular thread was just about buying something that was listed low and whether or not you should let the seller know. I'm actually just realizing that the first picture was NOT an eBay auction. I agree wholeheartedly people should help that guy out. That was my mistake.
