What's your top 5 video game characters from the older gaming systems/your childhood? Think Atari to Nintenod 63/original Playstation/Game Gear or even PC games up to 2000? and why if you care to elaborate.
Here are mine:
I. Gilius Thunderhead from the Golden Axe Series. I've always been a huge nerd for dwarves, probably because I'm a stocky grumpy dude myself and Gilius was the major badass from the Golden Axe series in my opinion. I'll never know how many hours and weekends I and my cousins spent repeatedly beating the first game during childhood and the arguments of who got to play as Gilius. I actually named my first real band after this dude. I have a monthly ritual of beating the first 2 games at least once a month, usually after a few drinks and most likely either before or after watching the original Conan the Barbarian film, which the developer claimed was a huge inspiration in creating the game.
II. Kain from Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen. Probably the first real antihero I ever thought was cool even though he's reminiscent of Elric of Melnibone to me. He's great in each of the games in the series but Blood Omen is by far my favorite. Shapeshifting and sucking blood from dazed villagers whilst duel wielding battle axes is pretty epic.
III. Minsc from the Baldur's Gate series. Greatest tank character ever and his whole back story with Boo the supposed miniature space hamster is hilarious. That and the fact that when you give Minsc a + anything greatsword enemies explode into bits.
VI. Dark Knight Freedan from the Illusion of Gaia. Pretty massive upgrade from playing at the main character Will in the underrated SNES gem. He has the whole Master Sword energy burst ability and as a kid I just thought he ruled for some reason or another. Shadow from the same game is pretty awesome as well. A humanoid blue inferno.
V. Mike from StarTropics.
