Sounds like classic supply and demand. Prices depend on both of these factors, so even if supply is really low, if demand is also low then the prices will still be low. Something with more supply, but an exploding demand will cost more. The fact that supply is low can potentially trigger demand to rise, but the information needs to reach and impact enough people to do so.

I feel a similar way FungFuMan, but not about just those two figures. It seems like about half the released Series 3 sculpts were incredible works of art (Snowman, Leviathan) and the other half were more like Series 2 garbage (Centaur, Anubis).

The figures have been regularly selling for around $100 for the past couple years, at least as long as I've been following MIMP, so it's not that recent a development. Also OmegaTraf is 100% on the mark about when people manage to get a break on the price. I only ever had the one Series 3 I used to own because the seller didn't know what he had and nobody else noticed him in the auction. I spent around $10 or so for a lot of 10 MIMPs, so it was like paying $2 shipped for him.

Have to disagree on that one I'm afraid. I reckon all sculpts of this series are fab although I often wonder why they were made in S1 sizes instead of S2. I mean, any knowledgable MIMPer knows that as the genre moved on, both size & point value increased quite significantly. So Why couldn't manufacturers make first few S3 MIMPs worth at least 40 points? After all, S2 MIMPs already began at 30 and SUPER SCARIES got a hefty start of 50 points.

I think it's harder to luck out like that these days though because people have become such canny buyers.

That said, I did get lucky with this one that arrived today, marooned in a lot of M.U.S.C.L.E.s for $15 ;)

You lucked out BIG time on this baby, not only is it a Series 3 - its in purple which are the rarer Big Boys premiums.
I have heard it said that they can go for $400 plus but I think a more suitable value would be $200

I doubt it would go for that much, especially as there is some minor damage to the tail, and it's one of the less desirable sculpts...however definitely a cracking acquisition and I am delighted with it

What is this anyway, half man and half PONY?

Sure looks that way to me Bro. Only Leviathan seems to match Centaur's size as far as I recall. Anubis however, towers above the rest of 'em. Wonder why they made him so tall?

The Centaur's horse part you can even see the ribs!
How does a Centaur digest food? Any organs in the horse part?

Anubis looks like he definitely been feasting on to many camel
burgers! I prefer the 'skinny' interpretations.

Yeah you're right! and to be fair, there's just as much detail carved into these litl critters as the first series! on the other hand, I can never understand why Centaur is bald on top with thick layers of hair around back 'n' sides. Which kinda reminds me of Andy Pipkin (AKA Matt Lucas) from Little Britain!
