OK, this may have been brought up before, but I'm intrigued by the numbering of the 2006 relaunch monsters. As far as I can see, there's no numbering on the figures themsleves, nor on the collector's leaflet or the website. However, there is numbering on the game cards. It's located on the top right on the front of the card, on the same line as the name. The ones I have I can confirm as:

#1 - Cyclops
#3 - Centaur
#4 - Ogre
#7 - Werewolf
#9 - Big Foot
#10 - Red Cap
#11 - Vampire
#13 - Hydra
#15 - Manticore
#19 - Griffin
#20 - Harpy
#21 - Roc
#25 - Windigo
#41 - Boogey Man
#46 - Loch Ness Monster

The order doesn't match that shown on the leaflet or packaging, but it clearly keeps the monsters seperated into groups. Looks like #1-6 are the Beasts, #7-12 the Humanoids, #13-18 the Ancients, #19-24 the Winged, #25-30 the Maniacs, #31-36 the Dead, #37-42 the Ghosts and #43-48 the Sea Monsters. This fits in with the split into series one and two in some territories.

Anyway, what intrigued me is that on the REVERSE of the cards, on the very bottom left, the number is repeated, in the format: Card ###/230 (so Cyclops is Card 001/230). Does this mean that there were a whole 230 monsters originally planned? Seems a pretty huge amount. Then again, the late dinosaurs figures have numbers #223-226, don't they? Makes me wonder if the whole lot of the original line, right from Series One through the Space Aliens and late dinos, was up for inclusion.

My friend, I think you've just brought to light a couple things which nobody has ever both noticed and commented upon before!

Your keen observations are a welcome addition to the MIMP community. :)

Well, ta very much! Just caught my eye, that's all. Got some more 2006 figures and cards on the way, hoping that they'll abck up my observatiosn on the group numbering. All very intriguing...
