I went to see the Daft Punk tribute band 'One More Time' the other night at a club where a buddy of mine works. Their goal is to reproduce the authentic performance as closely as possible, which is significant for any non-Euro fans considering Daft Punk rarely performs in the US. I'd seen these guys when they came around a few months ago, so this time I knew to bring my camera equipment.

Any other fans here? Has anyone seen the real deal? Here's the encore bit I just finished uploading to my YouTube account. If you like these guys, you can check out their website or Facebook pages for tour dates. They seem to be touring around quite regularly.

I'm a huge Daft Punk fan.

That being said, their new album is 99% trash and one of the biggest let downs in terms of music for me in a very long time.

I will, however, check out these tribute artists in a bit!

I just think it's freaking bizarre that a band we were listening to at school 20 years ago has become this overnight global success.

I agree, they were awesome in 97 or so. 2013...not so much. Any time a band is hyped like this, I automatically shutdown. Been burned too many times.

Wow, I'm kind of surprised to hear so much negative. I have to disagree with your guys on this one. I started liking these guys with the Homework release, but I don't think their new album is trash at all. I mean, I've heard some people complain that it's not as house as their other albums but to me it has far more listenable songs than Homework did. It's like a brilliant tribute to the 80's dance hall era.

I hate to the barer of bad news guys, The Prodigy and The Crystal Method make Daft Punk look like county fair free stage performers.

Some of the songs are decent on their new album, but they aren't Daft Punk songs and that's my issue. They experimented with something and unfortunately I think it's failed horribly. You're the only person I know who disagrees.

Prodigy and Crystal Method? How about Chemical Brothers, bro.

Ha I was wondering who would bring up chemical brothers! I busted out some old daft punk, and they really were great back in the day. It's so hard for bands to replicate their early works. They essentially work on album #1 their whole lives up to that point.

Daft Punk now, is different than 90's Daft Punk, just like main stream music is different now than it was back then.  I think that's why it's hard for people who loved them in the 90's to accept their current music as being 'as good' as their old stuff.  There are just too many memories we have attached to the old music, and for a band that sporadically puts out albums, it's tough to accept that they have changed not only as people, but as musicians.  This is a pretty common thing with most groups which have careers which span decades, though I'm sure there are some exceptions.

For those of us who remember, the late 90's was when electronica/techno was pretty mainstream (prodigy, chem Bros, Apex Twin, Fat boy Slim) for a minute or two.  Now with the new eruption of electronic music, mostly due to the success of Dub step, Daft punk has seen a resurgence, probably due in some part to the recent release of the Tron soundtrack (which was excellent).  And where as stuff like Skrillex doesn't sound all that much like DP, other popular bands like Glitch Mob, and Justice definitely owe some inspiration to them.

That's hilarious that someone decided to be a daft punk cover band.  It's great that they really try to re create the experience of seeing DP in concert, do they mix daft punk songs together live, like the real group does?

Electronica/Techno is STILL mainstream.

People hear it all the time weather they know they are hearing it or not.

TV commercials and movies use a ton of it.

Video games are loaded with it.

I just watched that video and they seem to do a majority of their best/most recognizable songs. I've never watched any of the live videos, (not a personal fan of watching live events on tv or whatever), so I don't know if that prolonged intro is standard Daft Punk but it was definitely a long. However, that whole thing would've been really impressive/fun to see live and I'm actually finding myself a little jelly of you right now, bro!

Getting back to what other people are saying though, I understand that artists "evolve", but people usually listen to them for a reason. When you start to change that "thing", people usually stop listening to the artist. Metallica is the greatest example of this ever. I don't know any respectable Metal fan who really cares much for them after the Black Album, and that's because of this change in their style. I could provide endless examples and they all have the same result: The band/group/artist wants to try something new, and 9/10 a majority of their fans don't like it or hate it and they lose a lot of respect.

They're free to change their style, but we as the fans are equally as free to not like it!

Well I didn't really intent to start a musical debate; a long time ago I accepted that aesthetics are entirely subjective so there's little use in discussing it. I do admit that I might be a bit insulated from the 'mainstream' quality of any particular piece of media as I don't have television and rarely listen to anything other than the 80's or comedy stations on my satellite radio. I did hear that Daft Punk was slated to perform at the VMAs, which was pretty surprising, but I have no plans to watch it. I alsoy used to listen to Prodigy and Crystal Method a lot when I was younger, but I'd have a hard time believing their stage show is anything close to this elaborate. Maybe I'm wrong?

I was mostly just wanting to share the video I took the other night because I thought it was an impressive  light show, and so far I don't think anyone has even mentioned it  Probably should have used a different title :)

Anyway, yes these guys did also mix tracks together and did some free-style keyboarding and such. If you watch the video and you'll hear examples of this. I had a good time, anyway ;)
