The Claw always reminded me of the severed hand from Evil Dead. Well, here is my prototype mash-up of the The Claw and the Book of the Dead that brought it to life, the Necronomicon! So obviously, its called the Necronomiclaw!

I'll be making a mold of it soon and casting it in my favorite green. I'll post it here once complete.

Let me know what you guys think!

;)

That's pretty cool! I would love to see a one tone brown leatherly color to match the Necronomicon.

Well, here is the first cast of Necronomiclaw! I'm VERY pleased with the face of the book, but The Claw's face has changed slightly through my mold-making technique. In some ways, I like it the way it is because its as if the Book of the Dead has mutated The Claw a little more! But the purist in me wants to try for a better mold. What do you guys think of it? I cast it in Necronomicon Leather Brown per request! I have a better mold-making process in mind, but would require purchasing some new materials.

I'll let you guys know as soon as I have a few ready to go. I sculpted the Necronomicon book and just need to bake it, make a mold and cast. I want the book mold ready because I always have a little resin left over after casting the Claw and it would be a better arrangement if I could use the excess resin and turn it into the book as a bonus. It currently takes two full days to cast, cure and trim one figure, so it will be a little longer before I have a few extra to send out. Lately, I've been dealing with house issues and work, so the casting is getting held up at the moment. No worries though, I'll get some made soon! Even though I'm using a pressure pot, the last cast I did had a small air pocket that didn't find its way out, so I'm one figure behind in the process.

So the book mold turned out perfect. I used some fast setting resin that doesn't like to be colored (results in bubbles and chaos) but it gives an idea of what the finished product will look when using the correct resin and colorant. Even in my pressure pot the chemical reaction between the resin and colorant (in this case it was Turmeric and Pumpkin Spice powders) produced a sandy, rough texture. I will post pictures of the final product in a couple of days . It should look pretty slick (fingers crossed!) I just bought some more resin this weekend, so its time for casting some fun!!!

Well, the final cast is pretty good, but the more I look at the original sculpt, I think I can produce better results if I use a different mold making material. I'm going to experiment a little further and keep anyone that's interested in the loop. Feel free to comment!

I just stumbled across the 2016 post by Plasticsoul pertaining to the Pocket Sized Necronomicon. And here I thought I was doing something that had not been done yet. I'm gonna drop this project and start something original. I'll keep ya'll posted as I go back to the drawing board. Plasticsoul's Book of the Dead is fantastic!

I'd keep going with the Necronomiclaw thing. That's pretty original if you ask me.

Well, if you guys really think its worth keeping alive (pun intended regarding the Book of the Dead!) then I'll keep at it. Plasticsoul's book looks more like the book from Army of Darkness where the book bites Ash's hand when trying to choose between the three in the cemetery! I was going for more of the first and second Evil Dead versions. In either case, I will pursue these casts and see if I can pull anymore detail from the original sculpts before offering them to you guys and then go from there. Thank you for keeping me encouraged. I won't lie, the wind went out of my sails when I saw that the book had already been made.

A simple way to color you cast is ink. Any non-water based ink. I successfully used inkjet printer ink, since i refill my cartridges i have bottles of the 4 colors.

With a white resin you can have colors looking like Neclos figurines.

Seriously?!!!! Thanks for the tip!!! I will give it a try. How many drops would you recommend for a figure the size of a GPK cheap toy? Also, the ink doesn't make the resin bubble up at all does it? I know if you use the wrong colorant, the resin bubbles up like crazy, especially in the white fast setting resin. Acrylic paint was the only colorant I found that worked for me. I've been using Alumilite clear and white if anyone was wondering.
