Hey all!

I'm new to the site; finally got around to taking photos of my collection so I could post them on here.

First off, let me tell you my story of the ultra-rare 'Star Back' Jotun Troll. They are definitely real.

I was 7 years old, 1992, living in South Africa, and had a small collection of MIMP series 1 (South African version, obviously) at the time.

As a family we went to neighbouring Botswana for a Christmas function at my dad's work project at the time, and the kids had a visit from ol' Father Christmas. Needless to say the presents were pre-determined!

I got the plastic Monster Mountain (I didn't take photos of that...it's dusty as hell in a cupboard and, quite frankly, rather boring to look at). I also got a couple of Monsters in the typical sealed Matchbox packs, which in South Africa had windows on them to see which Monster you'd get.

I was super lucky that nobody else at the shops had spotted the Star Back! All I remember is that mine was purple (same hue as the normal Monsters in my photos), had a star on the back which fitted into the circle with the points on, and was promptly sent off to the manufacturer, which I think in South Africa was Prima Toys who licensed from Matchbox, but I might be wrong on that.

Of course it was impossible to tell in 1992, at 7 years of age, that they'd be so ultra-rare and valuable now. I don't regret sending it off - I got however many free ones in return. It was either 10 or 20, something like that. It completed my set and filled my Monster Mountain, so I was a really happy kid at the time!

So yeah, make of that what you will.

Right, onto my collection.

On top of the ones in the photos, I also bought more recently on eBay a sealed original series 2 UK pack, as well as, I believe, an ultra-rare sealed Secret Skeleton pack, which I believe was only released in the UK. I read on a post, I think on LRG, that one went for £100 once. I bought mine earlier this year on eBay UK for about £7. Sadly no photos of those yet; they're sitting in storage in the UK and I'm in South Africa. I'll get round to it when I'm back in England.

Without further ado, here is my collection:

Series 1 complete

Attached File  IMG_6548.JPG   126.96K   15 downloads

Series 2 incomplete

Attached File  IMG_6551.JPG   108.26K   8 downloads

Kellogg's Frosties UK sport MIMPs from 1995. Incomplete.

P.S. If ANYONE has any sealed original series for sale I might be interested, ESPECIALLY if an original series 1 South African edition. Really want to get hold of one for nostalgia's sake.

Gosh, now that's testing my memory, as it was 23 years ago! I remember it was purple, and so must have been the colour of link #2 as that's the purple we got in SA. I'm convinced the star design was from link #1 though; I get a very strong memory coming back for that, but nothing at all for the star in link #2.

But 23 years is a long time and memories have a funny way of getting warped, so I can't say for certain.

Does that help/hinder?

Wow that's quite a collection you have, congrats!

Sadly I think my mass-collecting days are over. I used to be a serial-collector of various things (mostly video games), but space + time + money + age put paid to that for me. I'm now more interested in individual rarities / sealed items than completing large collections...if only I could be young forever!
