[Exactobeast]

Joking that I made 200+ customs and change and then White Leo takes the pic of the only figure in this thread I didn't make and says "now that's a cool figure!"  .  It is less funny now. 

 

 

It is a sweet figure though. I like the arm placements. I'd try to mod my own, but have still been stumped with bug heads.  I did make a batch of robot heads in the last build, but really when you start cutting and pasting you lose a lot of detail.

Soooo, when first cruising the little rubber guys page, I came across this custom and just couldn't shake him out of my head.  I was never able to contact grimerslimer and I made my own.  This was nearly a year ago and I have not been thrilled with the moral repercussions.

I have no idea why I thought I'd be able to make this guy, but you take a tapir head and start playing with some random bits and VIOLA!  Ersico crushed this paint job.  Side note, I will point out that though those are carp legs, I did invert them to get the tail to the back.

I like the Oliphont and the Fantasy horse the best out of these.  Especially the coloring on the horse.  What kind of paints do you use?

A mix of craftsmart or Americana acrylic satin regular or metallic and some folkart acrylic Metallics as well. Occasionally I'll use a matte finish. Case in point being the body of the star dragon. Really mutes the color.

The horse is americana satin cottonball; craftsmart French wine, ash gray, stormy gray, and festive red; and some folkart aquamarine.

Double Post Hump Day

War monster size variance

 

Just a small peculiarity I noticed.  I built my custom war monsters from pictures and did a fairly excellent job of matching the correct pieces to these Frankenstein beasts.  I've finally  begun to get my hands on the actual war monsters and found that the size is slightly off.  They are maybe 80- 90% the size of the pieces of the battle beast they stole parts from.

How long does it take you to do one from start to finish? How the hell do you have time to do all this? Have you got kids?

I do have kids, but you are looking at a couple of years of beasts there. Usually I paint 1 set of five a week. Start to finish is tough. Build time varies and I usually do them in a large group once I have enough ideas.

For instance, I just hit that point literally yesterday and spent a few hours chopping and splicing using some Russian crash beasts I just got in. I'll probably have a group of 30 when I'm done, but it will probably take at least a month of time wherever I can grab it. Hopefully I can do this concurrently while still painting, but it does slow me down.

Come on man! You have them. Just a little practice. I am a terrible painter. Group 1 devil ram was literally the first thing I've painted (besides a house) since fourth grade and I wasn't very good then. Stay between the lines and find some colors that pop. Then just get that exacto knife and gorilla glue and you're in business.
