I have just purchased a 18" 1979 kenner Alien figure. These were withdrawn after a short shelf life for being to scary. I was very pleased to come across him.
I was wondering what some other people's defining toy collecting stories were?

When I finally brought home a near-mint, 100% complete Fortress Maximus. No yellowing at all. His only flaw is a small piece of sticker missing on his right knee.

There's a toy dealer at an antique mall my son and I occasionally visit for Transformers. Last March, he revealed he had a Fortress Maximus and was willing to part with it for a decent price. I mulled it over for a couple of weeks, and finally accepted the offer.

It figures, Takara is finally re-issuing Fort Max this year, but I feel having the original is much better.

I have 3 big grails, and within the last year I've gotten 2 of them!

First one was at Power Con in september. I finally picked up the last chase figure I needed from the 200X MOTU line... Fisto!

Posted Image

I would have rather had him MOC, but I can't complain! Finally got him! Also I figured since I got him loose, migt as well send him off to AFA... He scored a 90!

Second one is the Palisades Muppets Backstage Playset. I held a boxed one in my hands back in 03 when it was released, but passed on it. At the time $65 was too much. That was one of my biggest toy regrets up untill earlier this month when I found it at a local toy show for $20!

Posted Image

I found it with no figures and only a couple accessories, but I'm super happy either way! The way I found it would still sell on Ebay for over $200! This one will never see Ebay, though!

The third one I haven't been able to score yet is the Playmates Donatello statue released in 02 I think...

I would love to have a colplete set of these!

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

Just about any time I get a package in the mail from one of my LRG peeps, is one of those moments. I'll mention looking for an Army Ant, or WCW Galoob figure (Trent), and I shows up in the mail... Not only did I just get to unwrap this sweet revisitaion to my childhood, but I am reminded about the friends that I have made that share my love for these things.

It really is like winning twice, every time.

I'm a simple guy, so my holy grail moment was getting a muscle set in flesh. Also, getting the flesh 4-packs, 28-packs, and just recently (finally!) a flesh 10-pack. Something about muscles makes them special everytime I get new ones. :)
Most recently however, it was getting all the stuff made and sold by people here...UofV, Scrap Sandayu, Critters...amazing stuff that made me feel like being a kid in the 80's again!

If Veers is saying him getting a M.U.S.C.L.E. Nestle Quik can is his Holy Grail moment, then I'm going to have to agree with him on this.  :)  I will never forget what through my mind when I saw the Nestle Quik can on Ebay.  I was doing my usual morning search, saw the art work on the back of the can, thought WTF is that............no it can't be...........HOLY S**T it is!!  I honestly never thought I would be able to find one.

Mine will probably be when I finally find a Teddy Ruxpin Airship playset.  So far though I've had awful luck with getting outbid on the only to come up on eBay in the past couple years with two seconds remaining :-(

Personally, I have a couple am looking for the red rubber armymen MARX TOYS made as "Commies" in the early Fifties

(Thumbnails from ToySoldierHQ site .. a source for OLD little rubber guys and OLD collectors thereof!!)

In the early Nineties, I had THREE pre-teen sons and TWO pre-teen daughters.

Always on the lookout for BATTLE BEASTS and STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE,

I came upon a Childrens Palace toy store

http://en.wikipedia....iki/Child_World

that was closing them out for 50 cents each.

I picked up almost a hundred cards that night.

The next week, in the mall right across the street (North St. Louis, MO County), the K&K (Kay Bee Toys)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K_B_Toys

store was closing and doing the same thing!

SCORRE!!

I just thought about it, and I think my holy grail moment was finding a vintage metal Cat in the Hat lunchbox at this weird little store up in the mountains in Jerome, AZ.
