And so, the 200X subscription continues.  Well, now that we've gotten the big boys out of the way, it's just gonna be repaints and variants, right?  Nope!  MOTUC started a trend by including figures of Chief Carnivus and Lord Dactus, members of King Randor's Council of Eternia.  And this mini-subscription promises to add two more.  First up is King Chooblah, who is basically Eternia's yeti.

Chooblah, who went unamed in the show and was just "The Kutalak Elder," was originally scheduled to receive a figure in the 2000s, but that toyline really shot itself in the foot by basically never packing actual characters besides He-Man and Skeletor into the cases.  Still, his almost-appearance put him on the radar, and now we finally have a toy!

KING CHOOBLAH: HEROIC KING OF THE KUTALAKS
REAL NAME: K'RUDULAK CHOOBOOLAH
Once thought to be a mythical race, the savage looking Kulataks allied themselves with King Randor after Skeletor attempted to steal Eternium metal from their mines. Supplying the Masters of the Universe with this precious meta, the Kulataks helped build a new prison for Skeletor's Evil Warriors, King Chooblah later joined Randor's new Eternian Council, helping to unify the free people of Eternia against evil. Chooblah took up arms himself during the Second Ultimate Battleground leading three battalions of brave Kulatak warriors against the Snake Men and Horde armies. Their attack was the key to defeating King Hssss and destroying the Horde war machines. Wise leader of the Kulatak warriors, King Chooblah uses his claws and great strength to defeat evil enemies!

Funny thing.  his real last name was supposed to be "Chooblah," but apparently got typoed into "Chooboolah."  No matter, I'll just call him Choobles, instead.

PACKAGING: ****

Nothing new.  Chooblah fits inside an ordinary blister pack.

SCULPT: ***1/2

There was a little bit of fear that this guy would just be a cheap kitbash of Beast-Man parts painted white, and while it is true that he shares a few pieces, Choobles is actually pretty unique.  He uses the Beast-Man torso, but just as with Callix and Evil Seed, Mattel added their own armor pieces to simulate his torso - in this case, a massive, furry set of shoulders.

Chooblah-Ready.png

As for his other new parts, Choobles isn't as apelike as most abominable snowmen, instead combining features from dogs and polar bears.  His face, for exampl, is pretty canine.  or maybe feline.  Or bear-like.  It's not a direct parallel to any earth animal, but it certainly isn't a mere ape.  His huge, hulking clawed forearms are also new, and really help the Yeti impression.

Chooblah-Roar.png

Amazingly, his shoulder piece fits on pretty well - it can come loose if you try, but for the most part it looks like an organic part of his sculpt, not an added piece of armor.

PAINT: ****

Choobles has a lot of white on him, which is always a difficult proposition for a figure.  Flat white obscures detail, and often looks more like plastic than many other colors(gold and red tend to be hit hard by that, too).  White paint is usually gloppy.  Paint washes over white tend to shade it too much.  Choobles has a lot of thingsgoing for him - a faint gray-blue wash, a mild blue tone to the white, and a non-glossy paint job to keep away that plastic look.  It actually works.  He has more detail than 90% of the line, sure, but his white fur looks like it should.  A little snowy, even.

Chooblah-Battle.png

Aside form the fur, he's got blue for his skin, dark gray for his claws, different shades o fyellow for his eyes and teeth, and some bone and green for his jewelry.  It's fairly surprising how many different paint steps there are, but it means that his level of detail remains consistent.

ARTICULATION: ***

Choobles has mostly normal MOTUC articulation... well, at first.  He's actually more reminiscent of Dactus than anybody else.  He’s got a ball-jointed head and ankles, swivel wrists, waist, hinged elbows, knees, and torso, and ball-and-socket shoulders, and hips. The major addition is in his ankles – he stands digitigrade, so he's got a ball-joint a little higher up than one would expect.

Chooblah-TippyToes.png

Choobles is a little top-heavy, but nothing compared to Dactus - he should be able to stand perfectly fine no matter what you do with his legs. Unfortunately, his arm articulation is slightly hindered by his massive shoulders and forearms, and you may have to get creative with him.

ACCESSORIES: ***

Choobles comes with his staff, a piece of green wood in the shape of a shepherd's crook.  Interesting how the idea of a king as a shepherd has pereated society, hasn't it?  It fits in his right hand, and is accurate to the show.

Chooblah-Nekkid.png

As I said before, technically his shoulders count as an accessory, as they are removable.  Underneath, Choobles looks like a skinny dog.  Maybe this is what he's like when shaved?

VALUE: **1/2

It's MOTUC.  Do the math.

THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR:

Although Choobles feels sturdy, be careful that he doesn't tip over and fall.

Chooblah-Dactus01.png

WHERE TO BUY:

It's MOTUC.  Scour the internet and hope.

OVERALL: ****

King Chooblah (Chooboolah?  Choobles?) isn't completely perfect - his shoulders and forearms impede articulation, and he has visible hip joints - but he's really good, especially for this line.  Just as with Callix and Evil Seed, he begins with a base of reused parts, only to build on those and create an entirely unique figure.

Chooblah-Dactus03.png

Although Chooblah was never a major character, he is visually distinctive enough to be a welcome edition to this line - or any line in this scale that needs a yeti, to be honest.
