I just bought a new TV (53" widescreen HDTV). I'm trying to play a widescreen DVD on my PS2, but the screen setup menu dosen't have a 16:9 option. It's stuck on 4:3 and offers no other options! I allready set the system configuration to 16:9 widescreen (with no disk in the PS2). I then put a DVD (widescreen) in the PS2, but instead of showing the image on the whole screen, the image is still displayed with the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen! I have the PS2 connected to the TV directly using an S-Video cable. Can anyone tell me why the picture will not display correctly?
Can't change aspect ratio on my PS2!

it is preserving the 16:9 ratio and makeing the balck lines appear on the left and right sides to keep it and the top and bottom black lines are due to it being widescreen.
ps2 is a crapy dvd player anyway.

Here's the thing though; the picture still has the black bars top and bottom, but no bars on the left and right! It just strechtes the picture the full width of the screen.

I only tried the "Gladiator" DVD on the PS2.
I have a regular DVD player and the DVD played fine on that one.
It's just that it really bugs me that I can't make the PS2 work right!
