I mostly finished 23, but I have some questions about your translation before I can finalize it:

1. I can't make heads or tails of what Kinnikuman's trying to say with the "cheap" line. (so I just adlibbed it until I can figure out what it actually means)

2. What's Natsuko talking about at the end about sleeping with someone else's wife?


Anyhow, here's the beta release of Chapter 23, with the original Photoshop files included. Once I get an explanation about the two above lines, (and maybe some feedback) I can finalize it.

EDIT: 25 had no snags like 23 did, so here's that, too.

Kinnikuman chapter 25: It was tempting to localize Okamarous' name into "Trannysaurus", but I decided not to.

That chapter was a royal pain due to how many narrow text bubbles there were. The quality reflects this.

I should have done this sooner but here's what it was:
1. I think Suguru was commenting that the gyudon he was eating was a cheap gyudon but delicious regardless. My guess is cheaper foods are less tasty than more expensive ones so that's why he was making that comment
2. I think Natsuko's comment was in regards to not knowing what happened while she was a kaijuu. Seeing both Suguru and Terryman huge, she probably thought they grew to fight each other over her and probably is warning one to not "steal another's wife"...essentially, she probably doesn't want the two of them to fight over her when she's essentially Terry.

Those are what I could make out I guess.

In that case, we really need to start working together, since we have over 15 volumes left of this series. So, how do you want to co-ordinate this? You wanna take the 26+27 2-part, and I'll take 28+29?

I also need to finalize 23. Oh, I also need a working mirror of Theorgg's 15 and 18. (all of the links to them are dead)

Toriyamaworld had 'Volume/Chapter -(dash)- page number'... but the chapter numbers arn't matching up in this current translation.

EDIT: I notice that TW labelled the volumes differently than it actually named them for Volume 2. Does Volume 3 start renumbering the first chapter as 1? Or did TW just do that?

How should we number these?

And StetCase, I think we duplicated both 'Giant Natsuko' and 'Tendon's Revenge.' Oops.

Also, can I get a .zip file of your work?



ANOTHER edit: The "Cheap Gyudon" comment and the 'you havn't paid!' comment I took to mean that Kinnikuman was saying he got a great deal for what he paid... and that he hadn't paid.

Those links just give an unexpected end of archive error.

Here's the thing: Kinnikuman's chapters have a really odd numbering system. The early chapters have no chapter numbers, and later on the series is numbered by arc. (for example: "Golden Mask arc 1") I'm personally just going to keep using whatever number Ataru does and someone can rename the file if they don't like it.

I'm on my downstairs computer atm, but I'll get you some .zips in a bit.


EDIT: Yeah, I'll just take my best guess as to what that means, since nobody seems completely sure.

Just a quick heads up: I've started on 28, and I have to say that the scans aren't nearly as nice as they were for volume 2. Lots of gray around the corners that needs to be cleaned up, so it may be a bit harder from here on. Luckily, it's minor enough that it can be fixed without any complicated techniques needed.

EDIT: btw, what should I call Kinnikuman's dad? Toriyama's World switched between "King Kinniku" and "Kinniku Diaoh" a few times. >_>


Knuxie, you seem pretty on the ball. You use Photoshop for your editing right? Maybe I should start sending my .ps files through you so that you can fix things like typos and inconsistency in the Translation.
For example, I use "Morinaga brand _______" because it makes the blatant product placement funnier and Orgg just uses "Morinaga ______", I give Terryman a different font because he always talks in left-to-right in the original text (implying he has an American accent or something) and I've accidentally been using "Skull Duggery" instead of "Skullduggery". There seem to be quite a few inconsistencies between us, and it would be nice to have someone to fix those. (unifying the font wouldn't hurt, either)

Then you could convert them to jpeg, zip them, and drop an update at Baka-Updates. I think it improve the quality of the releases overall. (moreso when we start getting into the wresting stuff, since there's more continuity between chapters)

Although this is assuming Orgg is using photoshop too, and not MS Paint. (since you really can't edit .JPG text after they're saved)

You should really consider converting to Photoshop. It makes the end result much nicer.

I'm guessing "Long" is an engrishy way of saying they're like fries. Luckily, I don't think they're going to come up again.

I use Coral Paintshop (for text) and OpenCanvas (for drawn SFX), so I don't know if I can open just .ps files. I can give it a shot, or you can just save them as .pngs or .bmps.

I wish my Paintshop wouldn't space out letters so much when I'm putting them vertically. (Edit: Durhur. Figured out a way to fix that. XD)

As for Mayumi's name... I prefer Daioh but if we're using english terms (like for Iwao calling Kinkotsu "master" rather than "sensei", Meat saying "Prince" than "Ouji", and dropping the honorifics from names), I'd go with King.

Meh, it's too hard to correct typos and such on PNGs. Just forget it for now, unless it becomes a problem in the future.

Don't worry about it, I work fast, but this is really boring. I wouldn't be able to keep up this speed if I were the only one working on it. (plus I really don't like chapter 26 and 27 ) Together we can do it faster than either of us could do on our own.

Well we're not supposed to know that yet! At this point Robin Mask is just this horrible evil who will end up ruining Suguru and make him seem like the inept Choujin he is at this point! We're not supposed to know yet about what happens against Atlantis...and against Kinniku Mariposa...and all that other stuff...

The funny thing that I'm about to do Canadianman/Robin Mask and this whole rant about how Canada is just completely neglected by Japanese audiences and given these inept and pointless characters such as...well, him. It's such a shame though: Canada is an extremely cool country (having been there a few times) and yet the Japanese perspective is pretty much the same as the US: they're just "there" or "Blame Canada" or something.
