Hello, I am contemplating purchasing a MUSCLE lot via craigslist.  I have pictures.  Is there anything I should know about purchasing fake figures?

I doubt that there is an issue, but I am a new collector and wanted to ask the boards if there is anything I should be aware of.

So I'm not asking for advice about dealing on craigslist, that I understand.  I am just specifically curious about MUSCLE figures.

Thanks.

I would just beware of anyone touting an one or two particular figures as being super rare or hard to find... not saying that if they claim that that they are lying.  They may actually have some really good figures (or not).

Otherwise if you are paying on average 50 - 75 cents each for the lot, you are are probably doing pretty well and getting a good deal.

If they are specific in what they have as being particularly pricey... then just research that particular figure, yknow?

Hell, even if you buy a big lot and you get a few bootlegs in the mix, that may not actually be a bad thing as there are plenty of collectors that will go out of their way for bootlegs.  You just don't want to pony up big money for a particular fig and then discover it's bootlegged, if that makes sense.

Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks for the feedback.  Seller isn't advertising any particular figure, just posted a lot of randoms flesh and colored.

I'm paying $1.25 / figure prior to shipping.  Too much?

I put together a set of flesh MUSCLE about 2 years ago through trades and generally tried for a rate of $.50/each, $.75 for popular sculpts and the last few I was after; SC notwithstanding)

Seems the market is on a bit of an upswing since then and $1/per is a bit more acceptable now, but I haven't been after flesh figs since then so I can't say for sure. Colored figs go for a little more, I think $1-$1.50 probably isn't unreasonable in the current market.

So really it depends on the size of the lot and the ratio of colored/flesh figures. I mean if I were buying like 50 figures I would want my price per figure a bit lower; at this rate I'd expect that he'd be selling individual figs for ~$2, which is dumb.

Small lot (10-20)? No.
Big lot (20+)? Yes.

The best way to get "a bunch of figures" for the cheapest price is to bid on large lots on eBay (lots of over 100 figures) they tend to go for by far the lowest per figure $ amount.

$1/ per figure is a pretty reasonable amount right now.
