I recently got in the MOC Frog/Elephant BB I was looking for  The card's in great condition but the original price sticker (two, actually) is placed on the right side of the bubble, and I kind of want it gone. Now, I know most of you are going to say "just leave it there", and in most cases I would (especially had it been on the cardboard) but it seems removing it from the plastic bubble should be possible without damaging the packaging.

Google tells me that it's possible to use a blow dryer to heat the old glue up for removal, or to just use a product like Goo Gone to take care of it. Thought I'd ask if anyone here has any experience with this before I took a swing at it. Any additional tips or warnings welcomed.

Thanks!

If you use a blow-dryer, you could actually melt the glue holding the bubble to the card. I strongly advise against that method. I'd say just peel it off and use goo-gone or a cloth damped with hot water.

Buuuut that's just my two cents and I in no way want to be responsible if things go south.

Ok, thanks guys. I think I'll just give rubbing alcohol a try. Good looking out about the blowdryer though Draz, I hadn't really thought about that but it is in pretty close proximity.

Oil removes adhesive. Can peel the sticker and whatever doesn't come off, you can use any type of cooking oil or whatever. Use a really soft cloth and careful not to scratch the plastic.

I usually just sort of blow on it making the hottest air this little engine can and peeling slow and steady, if that don't work. i hit it with the hair drier making sure to keep it moving so's to no burn or bubble up anything.

In the past I've used alcohol and mineral spirits (separate occasions NOT mixed together or anything) with good results, never used them on paper- ish items such as card backs. always plastics, and depending on the strength alcohol . Ive done some pretty good damage to Nintendo game labels,

I do know one guy that swears up and down that WD-40 takes price tags off really well. I just assumed that it would stain. and knowing that his house is dimly lit. thought maybe he couldn't tell it was staining. never got to examine them in bright light.

I use rubbing alcohol or GooGone for sticker removal. Never had any problems. Just dip a Q-tip in either and completely saturate the sticker. After a minutes or so, it will turn to mush, and you should be able to gently rub it off with the Q-tip without damaging the plastic.

Word of caution - never mix rubbing alcohol with GooGone. I don't know what funky chemistry happens when you do, but it will melt plastic. I unfortunately ruined a toy once doing this. I'm sure it depends on the plastic, though. However, this toy was from the Rocklord toyline, which used some pretty heavy duty plastic.

I would be afraid that the blow-dryer method could possibly loosen the glue holding the bubble to the cardback.

too much heat on the bubble can distort/ melt it and cause a weird texture effect

Well I'm back with results.

Attached File  IMG_20131212_231426.jpg   272.91K   12 downloads

As far as I can tell, WD-40 is the clear winner here. I just rubbed a bit on the stickers with a cotton swab, waited about 10 minutes, then they both cleanly just fell off after gentle peeling at the corners. Some glue residue was left behind, so I tried a little Krud Kutter (similar to Goo-Gone) but it wasn't dissolving the old hardened glue, so I dried it off and again hit it with another swab of WD-40 and now it's completely clean and my card is as good as case-fresh. Thanks all!

WD40 is oil. Orange oil will work well too.
