In UK  until like at least 2006 they was lots of Tomy Gatcha ones that started to phase out the cheaper ones. Then stores who bought them started to fill them with their own stuff so cheaper stuff that should of been under 50p stuff in them was selling for £1 instead. I miss cereal figures more though even got a Gold mini boglin from one once.

It's good that I already made this topic, because seeing my more recent finds I would certainly see myself in the position of making it now anyway. I've gone ahead, put on my straight face and began approaching crowded bars in search of capsule toys once again. Man, those looks really get on my back. It's like, "what's this weirdo doing". So why put the effing machine in the first place, right? Yeah, yeah, for the kids, I know. Anyway, I found myself some new stuff that is leaps and bounds above the average quality of spanish capsule machines, while still being solidly below what they should be in an ideal world. Good enough if you ask me. I'll share my secret knowledge and stolen Internet pictures with thee:

- Splatterosi. The first line I found these days and arguably the most interesting (please don't stop reading) comes from Italy and boasts a large number of differing sublines, each an exercise in stretchy, sticky, precociously filthy cheap toys. Those are not my cup of tea for the most part, because non-poseable and completely full of garbage in days, but wait until you see what they got. Splatterosi offers squishable literal shits with extremities and frowny face (worst and most common), little piggies with minimalistic expressions (beh), monster heads (including a Count-Orlok lookalike that I have with me right now, made with a more solid material than the others while still being a stretchy thing), effing LUCHADORES called Kombactek or something like that, creepy crawlies, alien organs (though they are quite earthly in appareance, brains, eyes, the works), Mayan apocalypse (those I think are made from non-stretchy material, thank god) and little finger puppets with a zombie-insane clown angle. I was positive that I wanted a lot of those, but after spending some good ol' euros and getting endless shits and two monster heads, I figured the machine only had those and wept. No luchadores and finger zombies for me, I guess.

- DC Super Friends 3D Danglers with Plug. With a name like that what's left for me to comment on? They are little figures about 2 inches tall, containing some of the most prominent heroes and villains of the DC universe, and with a plug if you are feeling freaky (I pulled that out of my figure because eff plugs). Think Superman, Batman, Joker and such, and some less-known people like Hawkman, Cyborg or Superdog. What moved me to buy one (apart from the whole "being a capsule toy that is not a truck" thing) was that everyone is built like a roid-ridden wrestling star, even the ones who are supposed to be skinny. Even the dog. So we have Andre the Giant as the Pingüin, and Batista as the whole DC universe except Robin, who is everyone's little bee-eye-itch. And even he could crush me with the sheer force of his protuding torso and Popeye arms. I got the porn version of the Riddler and life is good. By the way, the capsule contained a paper with pictures of the toy line and this sentence: "Hi Super Cool Fan! Which could be your most desired collection? Send us your ideas to blablabla". Sarcastic paper, you bet your ass I'll bug everybody nonstop about more monsters in your capsules. You just wait.

On a sidenote, as I was walking home from my purchases I encountered a third capsule machine with some sweet Marvel figures called "Marvel Swings". They were stilyzed, chibi-like versions of Thor, Captain America, boring boring and Ghost Rider. I'll keep you all informed.

Your DC Super Friends Danglers are most certainly inspired by the toys in the Imaginext DC line of the same name, where almost every figure has chunky proportions like that (I think the likes of Riddler and Flash are suffering from sharing the same mold as Superman). What I don't get is that these danglers all end in a plug - so what do they plug into?

Locally, things are not all that impressive, but they never were. I almost never found anything cool in local capsule vending machines, so it's mostly business as usual. The coolest things I'd ever run into were the typical things like bootleg Pokémon keychains, the various tiny ninjas you can find anywhere, and Homies used to be an infrequent find. I don't recall ever seeing Bok Choy Boys or the cooler recent "designer" vending machine toys others here have found in person or on eBay. I think some people unfairly weigh nostalgic memories of vending machines always being great, but the shitty plastic tops, sticky hands, football helmets and other useless baubles always come to mind before the few diamonds in the rough for me.

On the other hand, Japan always does neat things when it comes to vending machine toys, though there is some depreciation of quality. One of the interesting newer developments is that Japan's sales tax went up significantly this year, which seriously hurt the profit margins of those toys, and the machines are so numerous that retrofitting them to accept more money is a daunting task. One of Bandai's ways of coping was to introduce a much larger, more expensive can-shaped capsule instead of the usual sphere. It's in use right now for the current Super Sentai, ToQger, holding trains that are compatible with the current show's line of DX train mecha.

7asi9q8.jpg

This dumb image that's being reused everywhere is the only one I had on-hand to demonstrate. Retail versions have the very back of the train disconnected so it fits in the can and everything is wrapped in a black plastic baggie to conceal the contents.

They plug into the Headphone jack on a cell phone, since phones don't have that little strap latch thingy anymore.

I'm in Tacoma, WA and we have crap here. Glitter stickers and similar nonsense. One Toys r Us had some cool little aliens a while back but that's it. The best thing I found recently was the Bok Choy Boys down in Lincoln City, OR. I must've looked like an idiot pumping quarters into that machine to get a handful of them.

Wow.. that baby PlasticSoul got is awesome!

I made some errands and discovered where it came from, and it's fascinating. He's a little gnome belonging to a wide species called a Kobito or Kobitos, strange plant-based fair folk said to roam the woods and other wild places. There's many kinds of Kobitos, each of them with their particular looks, customs and ways of being catched by greedy children, and you can learn all about them in The Illustrated Book of Kobitos, which is a very real book published in 2006 in Japan. It seems the book spawned an increasingly popular franchise with the little creeps that include, yes, several toys like the one PlasticSoul got. I've seen those keychain-like Kobitos sold in sets on different websites, and it's more and more necessary for me to have them with each passing second. There's an official english website if you want to submerge yourself in the world of the Kobitos, as I already have.

I recently got back from a trip to Ohio, and made a surprising discovery. The Amish restaurant Mary Yoder has a machine with lil aliens in it! Another one I saw was Block heads at Giant Eagle.

The bowling alley in my town is one of those really old type bowling alleys and they had MUSCLE type figures in there up until about a year or 2 ago...no muscle sculpts but very similar figures...

Oh god, I've been meaning to order Ninja Men, Warbots and Retrobots for a long time now. They sell it by the hundreds for dirt cheap (well, not that cheap, which is why I haven't got them just yet) in several pages and they are so beautiful ARGGG

In general, vending machines that I have perused here in the US dispense crap.  One line that I absolutely loved though was Bare Bones (Bone Chillers in other areas).  They were an assortment of skulls, tombstones, grim reaper, and a gargoyle.  They had two lines.  Greyish white w/ a black wash and glow in the dark.  I still use them for Halloween decorations, horror dioramas, window dressings.  Ah hell, why do I type so much.  Here's a link:

http://www.amazon.co...ords=bare bones

The glowies have a strong glow too.  I really appreciate that quality.

Gotta give a shout out to my wife for this one.  She saw the machine first while shopping on her own.  She got me a glow reaper and I think one of the tombstones on first pull.  I was stupidly pleased to say the least!

There was also a zombie line a while back too.  Figures the size of Heroics(Zerboz) with really muddled paint apps.  It did not impress me.  But the potential was certainly there.

I told my girlfriend that I was interested in owning a toy capsule vending machine just for the sake of storing some of my minis in a fun/cool way.

So she bought me this for Christmas!!

orgg_1.JPG

He talks and lights up! He says 'Hi my name is ORGG and welcome to our store! I'm loaded with great toys"

Then he plays music and dispenses a capsule.

He originally came with boring lizard toys but as you can see he is now fully stocked with MUTANT MANIA!!!
