Hey everybody,

I do a lot of 3d printed work through Shapeways. I really dig Battle Beasts, and since SW is going to have full color printable plastic soon, I decided to try out a few things:

tumblr_nbldjbNy1L1qlxixqo2_500.jpg

Meet Rampager Rex, shown above in Beta production colors, and down here as early test renders:

Rampager is the first in what will hopefully be a series of Dinosaur-themed BB Style figures. You can see him on Shapeways here, and I'm considering a trooper variant without the cyborg eye, maybe a renegade variant with a feather mohawk.

My second figure depends entirely on whether SuperFanArt approves it:

Beastformers Twilight Sparkle.

Anyhow, thoughts? Opinions?

Not as of yet. I'm thinking of offering them as a separate item so people can pick them and save if they don't want them, or equip preexisting BB's with them.

Do you prefer Battle Beast style melee weapons or Laserbeast style guns?

Awesome! I'm really digging these figures! I especially love how much they look like the original BB's.

As far as the weapons go, I would like the laser guns better, but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority on that one lol.

Thanks. That's what I really wanted to capture, was the feel of the old figures.

Very damn cool!

But my concern is less about the design of the figure, and more about the actual material Shapeways will use. Their polyamide (what they call "strong flexible") is great for toys...but most everything else they offer kinda sucks...

Shapeways is going to be introducing full-color polyamide soon (they already have it, it's just in beta and can't be sold yet), so that should be good news. That was part of why I decided now was the time to start making these.

TrentTroop: Have you or anyone else ordered a print of these yet? The fidelity of the model looks excellent, but I would love to see a photograph of a physical version. I've never ordered anything from Shapeways myself and wondered how good the quality is.

My own experience in 3D printing used an low-end model we bought at work that resulted in less than stellar results - I'm guessing Shapeways is much better.

Two people have ordered full color sandstone models and one has ordered a polished white. I won't know what those are like until they are fully printed, since these are in the beta stages.

Shapeways prints are very nice. Here are some examples of some of my other stuff:

tumblr_muvunbH3Ee1qlxixqo1_1280.jpg

A Kirby Style Warhammer

tumblr_muvunbH3Ee1qlxixqo4_1280.jpg

Upgrade kit for a TF Weapon. The head and legs are shapeways.

tumblr_muvunbH3Ee1qlxixqo8_1280.jpg

My Dracula "Targetmonster"

tumblr_mvvrkjMsu61qlxixqo1_1280.jpg

Khan-Dorr, roughly MUSCLE sized.

These all use the basic white plastic, except the bird, which uses the black detail plastic.

That's an awesome Buzzsaw custom, bro. My kid has that weapon laying around, it makes me want that pretty badly!

Yeah, that Buzzsaw's dope as hell!

Okay, so full-color polyamide is in beta...but does that mean makers can order it for themselves (but just can't offer it in their stores to consumers)? If so, then have you ordered a full-color Ravager Rex for yourself? I'd love to see photos of that!

That's the situation. I'm planning on ordering a Rex and a Twilight Sparkle as soon as I have cash to do so. I might have my next dinosaur done by then too.

A preview of Titantic Triceratops, my next Dinosaur Creation. I'm planning on making a Protoceratops, Styrachosaurus and Monoclonius from this basic design, though they'll be more than head-swaps (different armor details, some with weapon-hands, size variation, etc.)
