1. That near-new cargo van I rented a few weeks ago.

2. A dryer sheet I found in the apartment laundry.

3. The elevator I rode 2 days ago (might have been the floormat).

I found a pomegranate Olay dish soap that smelled EXACTLY like MUSCLE figures to me.

I used to soak my figures in it for 24 hours when I was buying mass quantities of MUSCLE figures on Ebay. (Before the price got stupid)

It got rid of smoke smell and other nastiness in strangers homes... and made them smell like MUSCLE again.

LOL!!!

I thought I was freaking crazy... well...

anyways...

My wife bought a BUTT-TON of that stuff a while back and I have been cleaning every muscle that I get in it. I was pretty sure that I was making it up in my head because it's muscle pink. LOL. I kept thinking to myself, "Geez, this stuff smells JUST LIKE muscles! I swear it does... NAHHHHHH!".

[attachment=51136:DSCI2069.JPG]

I think THIS STUFF smells just like MUSCLES too. It has a stronger scent though and when they are all dried off, it smells to me like they just came out of the pack! It's "Totally-Awsome / Oxygen Power / All purpose spot remover" You can get it at the dollar tree for only a buck a gallon!

I was at the grocery store today, and decided to give this stuff a whiff. Wow, there are some Muscle notes in there for sure.

I know it sounds strange, but it does. Slightly sweeter at first, but that subtle Muscle sent is in there for sure.

Bought two bottles

Yep, I know it makes NO SENSE at all. But Its got those MUSCLE notes in there, and once they are cleaned and dry those notes stay and make the MUSCLES smell brand new.

It was a truly random discovery, my wife likes the smell of Pomegranate :)

Now I feel bad for not mentioning this sooner, Ive been using this stuff for 2 years now :)

Next time I'm at WalMart...

Is this the 'next big MUSCLE discovery?'

As Veers said, I've smelt NOTHING like MUSCLEs. Ever.

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

I wonder if this or something like it is a likely culprit for the smell of M.U.S.C.L.E.?

http://en.wikipedia....ethyl_phthalate

Phthalates are the most common PVC plasticisers, they also contribute to the odour of paint and "new car smell".

Has nobody ever had a M.U.S.C.L.E. figure chemically analysed? Surely a job for the University of M.U.S.C.L.E.... :notme:

The investigation has been long planned, but cost prohibitive.

Perhaps UofM has its first Kickstarter campaign? (Oh my god, I just had an idea for one of the gift levels too. )

I found this thread after cleaning up a recent lot of mildly-smoky smelling MUSCLES using apple-scented dish soap, hot water, and an electric toothbrush. After rinsing I put them in more boiling water with a little bleach and let them soak overnight. Worked great and cleaned virtually all the grime off the figures, and no more smoke!

According to that thread the original smell of the figures will return after cleaning thoroughly, and I have to say they do have a quite pleasant smell now, but I don't know if it's the actual original figure smell or just the apple/bleach combo because I don't recall what they originally smelled like. Anyone want to take a stab at describing how it smells? (I'm sure it'd be tricky) I didn't expect to see pomegranate dish soap as the closest known comparison but now I kind of want to check it out. Since I'm necroposting, does anyone know if they still make the stuff?

I definitely appreciate the good-plastic smell though, so SD's link to diethyl phthalate is interesting. The key fob for my car has a fantastic plastic smell that has somehow held on for three years now.I can't even describe the scent, and  I thought I was crazy until I asked my girlfriend if she thought it smelled good. Now she periodically asks me if she can smell my keys

Definitely something going on here...

Yeah, Dawn still makes that pomegranate soap. One of my sisters bought a ton in her halfhearted attempt to being one of those coupon shoppers, and it didn't occur to me until you bumped this thread that it was the very same stuff these guys were raving about for having the MUSCLE smell!

I am totally not going to start huffing hand soap...
