Hi guys

I know this isn't strictly a toy question (well it sort of is!!)

I've been racking my brains for ages now trying to remember the name/company that produced a packet which contained an American Football player card(s), a stick of chewing gum and the best thing of all, a miniature plastic American football helmet. I remember having a Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears and 49's one.

I cannot remember for the life of me who made them or what colour the packaging was? Can anyone help? I'm from the UK, so any UK members that remember these? Would love to find out so I could google them!! Not sure if there were released in the US or other countries?

Thanks in advance

Do these ring a bell? Scroll past the baseball ones to the sealed football version. These were released by Leaf.

I'm also in the UK and had a complete set of the helmets and a card display to mount them on - didn't have any of the cards though, as I believe I swapped them from a friend?

How big was the helmet? I'm in the UK, but am an NFL fan. My mother-in-law bought me a 49ers helmet for my birthday, which is about 5 inches by 5 inches in size.

They were closer to 2 x 2" (assuming I'm thinking of the same series as the OP) and were quite squared/boxy.

I found that image on the interwebs - my collection was last seen 15 odd years ago when I came across them (and the Cadbury's chocolate fingers tin they were kept in) in the folks' attic.

My brother collected these.  I still see them in vending machines.

There were also slightly larger versions.  If anyone is familiar with the Upstate NY area, there is a chain of small stores/sandwich shops called Stewart's that used these helmets as dishes for make-your-own sundaes.

Man, the 70s were so weird.   B)

Maybe you'll see the helmets here:

Brings a tear of nostalgia to my eye.

There was a place called Ground Round that would do the sundaes in the baseball helmets back in the late 80s early 90s

Yep, we had them.  They always seemed to be in a mall.  Kept dark and cool inside, too.

Fat porterhouse steak and cold draft beer with a brownie sundae to finish?    You bet.

There's another use of the word niggling!!  The first time I had ever heard the word was in a post by Burty a couple of weeks ago I think.  Why haven't I heard of this before?

@ TinyPink - When I was little the local DQ had those ice-cream in helmet deals too!
