So it looks like only a small percent of people would cry like a baby over how I responded. Ive tried not to be so formal on eBay with people in the past and most are cool and don't get mad, they respond In kind. I'm mean these are toys, I'm not selling priceless art.
Thanks guys.

It doesn't matter what the eff you're selling, nothing justifies responding to a reasonable inquiry in a dickish manner.

I wouldn't take offense, but I wouldn't buy from a seller that doesn't answer a question either. I wouldn't waste time on jokey back and forth messages with strangers on ebay. I just use it to buy/sell stuff.

I'm mean these are toys, I'm not selling priceless art.

But when these 'toys' reach car payment level type prices,I wouldn't want jokes,I'd want a response from someone who knows how to have an adult conversation.

I mean, look... If you don't like his sense of humor, you don't HAVE to buy from him. It's that simple.

He doesn't HAVE to take it super serious. He just doesn't. You have the right to purchase the figure somewhere else, if you don't like it.

And I'd want to remind you how fortunate you are that you can afford to spend that kind of money not just on toys, but the simplest of toys, for the purposes of bragging rights.

If you can't step back and laugh at the situation a bit, maybe you should just be investing in stocks, as opposed to something that's supposed to be fun.

I thought I recognized the eBay name, I thought for sure it was a member I've dwelt with on here. I was really shocked that he was upset. I didn't think it was dickesh, (a little too far) but sometimes our actions look different in our eyes. Some people are a lot more sensitive than others. I have dwelt with a lot of sales men that used a sense of humor to lighten the mood. (Strangers) I know eBay is different but the concept is the same. I had sellers make a few jokes when I asked questions, I felt it brightened up the EBay feeling.
I think I'm going to try and do this more often and see how it is received.

My guess is it was less the joke that bothered him, and more the fact that you didn't answer the question in your reply. If you made the joke but then also answered his question, his reaction might have been different.

How many posts you figure there are on this forum, calling people out in some way, for not answering a clarifying question to a possible rare and/or valuable figure?

Calling names, questioning validity, accusations  of attempted scamming... on and on. But then we have this consensus on pretty much the same situation.

Good point! After his response, I immediately told him I was sorry for the joke.

I would have to disagree. This is not the same as some one purposely trying to scam, mislead, or not clarify information. It was simple joke. You have to admit, asking someone if they're gumball sized toy floats in water would come across odd to most people.

I think you missed my point entirely. I was further illustrating what Frank was saying. Perception.

If say, you were not on here, and had simply cracked a joke when asked a clarifying question... what would the reaction here have been if brought up? I never once compared what you said/did to actively trying to scam someone. You made that leap. I was simply trying to get some to look at the situation in a different light. The light I would think the person posing the question might have been sitting in.

Remember, this is all you told us of the story, then asked what we think...

I'm selling some vintage GPKS on EBay. I was asked if I knew if they floated in water? I responded "are you planing on playing with them in the bathtub? Lol "

He responded... " it was a serious question. If you don't want to sell them, no problem" I guess he didn't link my joke...What do you guys think?

That's true, I can see your point. I can only speak for myself, how I would have felt, I would have had no problems with it. I can also see how some might. Like ironmask said: don't like it, don't buy from me.

I think Pennywise might have something to say about all this talk of whether or not something floats. Perhaps his famous quip would've met with better results?
