I did it.  I ruined Bad Eggz Bunch.

As Veers has pointed out many times, all it takes are one or two people to totally skew a market if it's small enough.  So...

Let us return to 2004.  It was a bright and sunny time - the economy was great, Alex was everybody's friends, MUSCLEs weren't in Class A, B, or C, and Rid was still in college. In the early '90s, Monster In My Pocket had a "Star Monster" promo going on, in which there was a one in a million chance for a special prize-winning star-branded monster.   nobody has ever seen one.  If it was made, it was probably only one, which got lost or thrown out or never purchased or something... but anyway, there were hints that it was a unique sculpt, not just a normal monster with the brand on it.  Possibly shaped like a hunchback-thing.  And I saw on eBay a mixed MIMP lot with a few other random figures, and this... hunched thing.  So what if that thing was the elusive star monster?  I bid on the lot and won!

But what I got was so strange... you know, I had to ask what it was!  Here's the thread, including a photo of the creature taken with A SCANNER, as I had no camera experience back then:

http://www.littlerub...?showtopic=6310

And so, Bad Eggz Bunch were DISCOVERED by the LRG crowd.  And interest sparked... prices rose... inflated... and before we knew it, bam.  $100 a figure.

I did it.  I started the ball rolling.  Forgive me, oh collectors, for my part in this insane price inflation!

This is LRG though so even if you started the cascade of unobtainable prices for this toy line it also eventually led to this...

So thanks in no small part to you i was able to snag my two favorite sculpts from the series as reproductions for less then the cost of a nice lunch.

It's cool to see how this all began some years ago with an unknown figure. Nice thread  Oh, and I still hope to find one at a car boot or charity shop some day :)

The funny thing is that I have originals of the three figures in your photo, and together they probably cost about as much as a decent lunch.

Which sort of ties into my point. I don't mind that these figures cost a lot because it makes it more enjoyable when you find one for chump change.

I've been wondering who to blame for having zero Bad Eggz Bunch in my collection. Thank you for outing yourself as the culprit. ;)

Reminds me of when people say they used to get uncommon GPK Cheap Toys for a lot cheaper. During that time I was in college too, and although still interested in LRG type stuff, wasn't buying any of it.

So what the hell is the pink guy?

I bought it here awhile back but never knew what he was. I was told it was a repro from TGB but that's all i know. Is it something i can find easily or is it stupid rare like the BEB guys? I love the sculpt and wouldn't mind a couple other colors.

It's a custom Cutter from Fistful of Power, one of the rare special editions.

I got crystal Cutter (the rarest version, limited to 200 worldwide) and another rarity (Xar) in a lot for £7.95 - including postage

Who's offering affordable repros?

And do they need to cast a vertebregg? (though he's MY Vertebregg!  Grrrraw!)

Oddly, that thread didn't start the BEB craze. Even though I had posted in that thread, I had completely forgotten about when the real BEB craze did start.

I'm not sure exactly how/when it did start, but I think it was when an old German member named Dark Klown posted pics of his collection. Everyone went nuts over them.

Once the madness was in full swing, rid came back from an absence and said shit I posted about one of them years ago. It was wack. I had totally forgotten about the thread.

I DID always like Egg Gripper... But not for what prices they command. Plus, I remember reading about their rubber breaking down, or something.

Kind of sounds like a(n Al) Bundy family reunion.

Some reproductions would be sweet. I just discovered I like a lot of the sculpts.

He offered full sets of BEB repros long before i got here but he actually replied to my pms(many months after i sent them)and let me snag my two favorite figures. It was something like...CMHOFF i think? I am sure someone here knows exactly who it was. He did some other great stuff as well.

The pics of the flesh repros look awesome. The two that PlasticSoul picked up are probably my favorite BEB sculpts too. I wish that guy was still here selling them.

Funny how "crazes" can pop up like that - I got one Bad Eggz Bunch from Woolworth's back when they were first out, and never got anymore for some reason (probably because they were expensive for what they were back then - one BEB figure cost the same as four MIMP, or something).

Back when I first found out about eBay (2003-ish), Bad Eggz Bunch were the first things I looked for, and never found any - until this madness began!

I got a full set of the reproduction ones from csmhoff, mind, and they're fantastic - you can see them somewhere in my collection pictures of my old room...

EDIT: Here's the picture! Not the best one, but it was a general comb-over of the room:
