I've got a blue BEB figure in hard plastic. However its got a white substance on it which when put under water disappears as if its been cleaned off. After scrubbing it with a toothbrush in soapy water I rinsed it off and as it started drying the residue reappeared. Although parts of it appear to have been removed using my thumbnail other parts appear not to react. It looks almost like some mold

Its definitely a hard plastic figure and not a dried out soft one was the copyright in the little cut out box is very clear and there are not cracks or such either.

Has anyone had or seen this happen before? and if so any ideas on how or what might remove it? I can upload photos if need be of it but the camera is on charge at the moment.

Thanks!

Some Fujiya Kaiju figures suffer from this & i've noticed some Sonrics figures have it too. It appears to be a deterioration of the plastic. I think it's been described as a kind of 'rot' before & has been noticed on figures of a certain age, even vintage Star Wars.
I know what you mean, cleaning & scrubbing does help a lot but doesn't get rid of it totally.

Ah man, thats completely frustrating if thats the case seeing as these damn things are rare and the seller didn't send me everything in the lot it was in:-/

I'll have another go at cleaning it in a bit then, I've never seen it on all the ones shown close up before.

I have seen it on the sonrics figures but its come across as a lot more lighter, this seems to be a bit heavier. I've taken a photo to show it.

These reappering "moulds" on BEB are well and truly removable using low pressure sandblasters.
(I´ve done it before on a hard blue fig with no damage at all to the figures surface)

Thanks for explaining that, but as I know nothing about sandblasting, is there any way to explain the method and tools used, eg is this some small tool you can buy or are we talking industrial stuff?:-D I really know nothing about it heh

Industrial stuff... I have access to such tools. Guess there are really many businesses who have sandblasters, engraving and stuff.
If you need help, pm me, you have to take all shipping costs but I could clean it off for you.

I've used armor all on figures that had that Dry rot. Seemed to do the trick pretty nicely.

whats armor? some kind of spray or? I just shipped my beb off to thomas to sandblast. Does the armor stuff work on sonrics mimp figures as they seem to get some kind of similar stuff on them too?

I used it on my kaiju figures. I've never owned a BEB or sonric figure so I'm not sure what kind of plastic they are made of. Armor all is one of those car tire shine sprays.

If you have less valuable figure I would say try a test one first.

I´ve received your Figure yesterday, sandblasting will be done in the next couple of days and I send him back to you early next week.

Let everyone know how the cleaning turned out once you got the figure back. Thanks!
