Retroband and myself have been working on this idea for a long time and today it finally launched. Basically it's a new line of toys based off old movies and books. Horror stuff and sci-fi as well. He is designing and sculpting his own figures and I am designing and sculpting mine then he produces everything himself. The idea is for everything to be a throwback to when the best(and worst)toys came from the mail-in order pages of comic books or inside cereal boxes and cracker jacks. So The advertisements and art are all very plain and don't really reveal much about what you are actually going to get if you order. Not knowing is half the fun! The first two toys are available now both cast in seriously strong resin(plastic). There will be new content added every month and what is up for grabs now may not be there when new things arrive.

^Cool!

Yeah I know my stuff will be way more obscure then Retro's stuff but that's a big part of the fun for me. That plus the fact anyone buying it initially is buying something without having seen the sculpt is pretty awesome.

Next month my toy will be based off a short horror story written well over 100 years ago and I put over a month and a half of work into the sculpt. To me the obscurity is fun even if no one ever appreciates it that doesn't change.

Very cool idea. I love it. It would be neat to save up UPC's (tickets, points, plastic coins, etc.) for an additional super special unknown surprise. Maybe different point levels? I remember this being a huge gimmick for some stuff. I think it was Pepsi that offered a Harrier Jet if you saved enough points.

I buy atleast one box of cereal every week and there is never a toy anymore. I thought I remember reading somewhere that they were banned due to it pushing unhealthy, sugary cereal onto kids. Is there truth to that? If so, why is it that fast food joints can still give them away? I remember some of the cooler toys were mail ordered and acquired by saving up upc's. I want my cereal premiums back!

By the way these nail the cereal premiums look. Great job!!

There was a law passed 9 years ago changing how companies can advertise towards children but that doesn't really make much of a difference. Most cereal companies just don't want to spend the money. Kellogs for example got busted a few years back because the tires on a toy car in their cereal would fall off before kids ever got their hands on it which was an obvious choking hazard. Same company also got busted for putting watches as prizes with mercury batteries. Meanwhile General Mills still puts cars and star wars pens and mini comic books in their cereals.

We will be doing some stuff for loyal customers for sure. Luckily it's easy to keep track of who bought what in the past. Wanted to do points/tokens but that stuff is too easy to fake or recreate.

Yeah I think it's more of cost thing to not include toys. It's just cheaper to offer prizes or virtual goods than to pay for the cost of tooling a new mold for injection molding and then plastic and labor for producing. I know not too long ago there were the spongebob premiums. It had a cool idea,  the back of the cereal box was a cut out play set to be used with the figures. Now a days yo don't get premiums unless they can tie it to a major franchise, i guess in hopes of moving boxes and help offset the costs.

Wow. That's surprising. I would figure any costs accrued from manufacturing would easily be offset by the additional sales it would evoke. I would certainly buy a box of cereal which I may normally not purchase for a vintage styled lrg with some charm. I could see where some of the stuff may be problematic for small children. That's why you make it a sizable chunk of plastic or rubber.

Good point on the counterfeit notion. You could make a rubber stamp of sorts that would be difficult to forge. Maybe with a signature of sorts. I dont know. Was just a random thought. Sounds like you may have another method figured out altogether. Cool that you thought to consider such an idea. And awesome first release of figures!

I really enjoyed that guy's reviews so far, first of the Retroband Meats and Gristle figures, now these. I think most of his reviews are going to be in more of an art toy direction than I prefer, but I should take a look at what else he's done anyway.

Need to see what's coming next!

I dig his stuff too. He really takes his time to cover everything and get as much info as possible. Which is awesome since I've always had a rough time getting credit for my older work. He also does stuff for the Spanky Stokes website and he did lots of work for Clutter as well.

Wow, they're selling quite nicely this time! Everything but Bubblegum Zardoz sold out.

I know you mentioned these were generally made-to-order this month, but what happens to any of the cast figures that didn't sell out? OG Zardoz and Belial seemed to be available right up to the day you switched offerings.

Did get my order a day or two after my last reply btw, didn't take pics out of my usual busyness that should clear up soon.

It's still a bit of a work in progress really. The first month stock was added a few times to make sure things couldn't sell out at all so people had a chance all month long at the original sculpts. Thing is the final day a ton of orders flooded in and had to be produced then shipped which is what delayed everything and made us miss the first week of the next month. So now there will be actual stock and once it's gone it's gone but it should be enough to last through most of the month. I figure if someone really wants something they will order in the first 2 or 3 weeks anyway. This way things should be a little smoother and ship faster as well since all stock will be made ahead of time.
