When in TRU yesterday looking for 2nd series UMs (no luck), I noticed the new Aliens and Predator Movie Maniacs line. The first one I checked out was Predator 2, and I was instantly in love! All those feelings of dorky love for action figures, repressed for years, were brought to the surface once again. Needless to say, I bought it, despite my years of boycotting everything McFarlane.

The McFarlane line has come a long way since I last bought one of its figures. Here goes...

LOOKS: 5 out of 5 McFarlane figures have always been nice to look at, but this thing is friggin' perfect. Predator 2 has wonderful sculpting, with excellent texture detailing, and awesome paint application. And the blood really looks like it's glowing! It's so detailed and so perfect, I have to display it separately from other figures because it completely overshadows them.

ARTICULATION: 4 out of 5 Surprisingly, this figure has a good deal of articulation! Usually, McFarlane figures are statues, but Predator 2 has 18 points of articulation! Wow! My main gripe is that some articulation is restricted by other parts of the figure, while other articulation isn't very useful at all. But man... this much articulation on any figure, much less on a McFarlane figure, is a real treat.

ACCESSORIES: 4 out of 5 Predator 2's accessories are pretty nice! It has a disc (that fits nicely in its hand), retractable claws, a mask, and a removable forearm. It also came with a stand... but I found the stand to be entirely useless, and I threw it away.

VALUE: 3 out of 5 Predator 2 cost $11.00... quite pricey! And, unfortunately, soon after I bought it, I accidentally ripped off its shoulder-pad. You'll have to keep in mind that it's not as durable as something like a Masters of the Universe figure. But, considering it's 8 inches tall and hyper-detailed, it's worth it!

COOLNESS: 4.5 out of 5 It has awesome detail, a removable forearm, and green blood... all of which really boost the coolness factor of the figure!

OVERALL: 4.1 out of 5 Surprisingly, McFarlane has made a figure that not only looks great, but is fun, too! I'm totally impressed, and I can't wait for the Queen Alien playet! e+

EDIT (9/25/03): You know, many times a toy seems really cool at first but loses that coolness quickly, leaving me to ask myself, "Why the hell did I buy this?" I've decided to add another factor to my older reviews to reflect this...

Staying Power: 3 out of 5 Predator is still a pretty cool figure. His details really keep your eye interested. But he seems like more of a display piece than a toy.

Adjusted Overall: 3.9 out of 5

On with the pictures! Here we see Predator 2, sans forearm...

Next we see Predator 2 sporting his mask, shoulder laser, and death-disc. Quite stylish, I must say...

And finally, for a size comparison, here's Predator 2 and Leo. Leo couldn't resist trying out the removable arm action for himself...

And to add- you should compare it with one of the older Predator toys! (which were still decent)

That figure looks awesome, more aticulated then the previous Movie Maniac figures, which is great, I'll have to pick one of those up, as well as the Predator Hunter figure which comes with the staff...

Ask and ye shall receive...

Here's a pic with Predator 2 and the old Kenner Ambush Predator Mailaway. Although it's a bit difficult to tell since Ambush Predator is clear plastic, the differences in the sculpt are pretty drastic.

Nice fig, I didn't even know these were coming out. I agree, McFarlane stinks, but every once in a while he does something good enough that you have to forget that and buy. Thanks for the heads up Nate, I'll be picking one of these up this weekend.

Me too! Well, just one. I loved the Kenner Aliens series so much that I managed to get all the original basic Aliens. Never got a Marine or Predator but that one. I only wish the Queens (flying and normal) were in my possession.

It's a shame I don't have a job. If I did, one of those McFarlane Aliens might be mine now... unless I went on a MUSCLE shopping spree... ^_^

That Predator figure is amazing! I am truly impressed by the detail put into it. :o

And that pic of yours Nathan is hilarious. Haha! When reading the post before I viewed the pic, I just knew it was going to be a pic of something like that! :)
